Trying to find piston/barrel/head for a GPR125 which is apparently the same as the TZR and DT125R models.

I can find a piston.

I cannot find the others. Sad

PJME do a big bore kit, but fuck that. Way too pricey and want to be able to sell it as learner legal should I sell it later on.

Where do people find these parts?!

There was a dutch site that was good for 2 stroke parts (assuming its a smoker engine you're after) I'll see if I can find it.

The site was 50cc.nl but having checked they don't do the right kits (they do do bigger than 50cc, the name is misleading)

Only problem is, I think they changed from air cooled to liquid cooled.. think loads are air cooled.

With regards to the water cooled ones, barrels look very similar, do you reckon most are the same? I have the PV system too... so ideally including that.

Cmsnl.com would be the place to look; even if they don't stock it, you'll be able to get hold of the part number at the very least.

Paddy,

So you want a head, a barrel and gaskets, piston, rings etc?

Normally when one does a top end rebuild, one just replaces the piston, rings, little end bearing, gudgeon pin, head gasket and base gasket.

Generally speaking, the only way that you can get a barrel is to buy a second hand one.

Unlike Royal Mail, I deliver!

Ignoring the light rust spots appearing (has sat in my car and his warehouse for a while) there is only really one area I'm iffy about, the exhaust port.

The rings have caught in the exhaust port and chewed up the top edge. From your pics, the liner looks quite thick on these, so a +1.5mm re-bore might go past the damaged area, and all that needs doing then is the top of the exhaust port window smoothing and chamfering IMO.

If you had the cylinder tuned they would raise the exhaust port and the damage would disapear as well i would say.

Definately not worth a brand new or re-condition cylinder being brought, as that one could be saved.

If you need a re-bore i would try PJME or Farhon engineering, as they do this type of work all the time.

BTW Athena did also do a full new cylinder kit with new powervalve, studs and everything in 125cc as well as the 170 big bore kit, but it says on their site that it's not currently available. Im guessing they stopped doing them, as everyone only wanted the 170 kit instead?

Yeah saw the Athena 170.

Like hell am I doing that. It has a carb that needs adjusting if you change the kit, I am no good with carbs Laughing

I know this is probably a dumb question but the engine has stood for a while... the top end and barrel off, what can I put in the engine to kinda, make things lubricated before I fiddle. Can I put 10w40 in there and just rotate the crank or is it not advised...

I don't like tuning carb's either and never again on a 2smoke, as i have enough paperweight pistons in my garage. Laughing

If the engine has been stored with the top end off for ages, you really want to be hoping that it was stored somewhere dry and warm and a shit load of 2stroke oil was poured into the cases as well.

If it was stored dry in a damp or cold shed, it's a good bet that the crank oil seals have died. Id turn the engine over a few times slowly while holding the con rod, and if after a couple of turns the rod is covered in transmission oil, then you know the oil seals were fucked.

TBH I'd probably just split the cases and replace the main bearings and oil seals anyway in this situation, as it's not that expensive to do and if the crank itself is ok, then your on a winner anyway. To put a new top end on and then find out almost straight away when you go to start it that the crank oil seals are screwed, would be a massive pain in the arse.
