They think they're funny, but they're not.
For one thing, they've forgotten about the Virago 535, and there are loads of bikes that can be restricted that they haven't mentioned. Er, Honda CB500?
The biggest headache will be that they're giving it large about requiring evidence of restriction from a "recognised restriction specialist" - not a dyno printout - which is anyone's guess. I asked back in September and they hadn't "recognised" anyone yet. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

FYI if anyone wants to look at the list it's as a pdf file on DSA Motorcycle MTV Jan13 - this clicky link.
HTH
BTW I have sent email asking for a list of official sources in the York and/or Leeds area. This based on a 2nd hand motorcycle not purchased from the bike's make main dealer. Have to wait and see if/what the response is. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Lolwat. What kind of licence do you get if you take the test on that? Can you even get an A2 auto-only licence? ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

The Virago 750 claimed 41kW, and it should be an A bike. The 535 is suitable for A2. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Apology for bumping this but I have just had a reply from the DSA.
I sent... | Quote: | My son would like information regarding the new motorcycle tests.
You have a list of approved motorcycles - https://assets.dft.gov.uk/dsa-bl/dsa-motorcycle-mtv-jan13.pdf
This states a proof of restriction must be supplied by an official source.
The bike he wishes to use is second hand, purchased not from a main dealer for that make.
Please can you supply a list of official sources in the York and/or Leeds area.
Thank you. |
The reply is... | Quote: | Thank you for your email of 14 January about providing proof of your son’s motorbike restriction.
I am unable to give you a list of official sources in your area however; you could use the motorbike manufacturer’s website for a list of official garages in your area.
Failing this you can visit a local garage that will be able to do the necessary checks. The proof must be on a certificate or headed paper from the garage, Dyno certificates are not acceptable. |
So I can conclude that there is no list of official sources. Main dealers are ok and also any back street garage with headed paper. I wonder if that includes virtual back street garages?
Hope this helps clarify the situation ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
