Hi all,

Just called up the company i'm with for my insurance and they said to insure a CBR600 for TPO would be about £600. This on top of the £380 I spent on the insurance for the Sachs. Can this be right?

£980! Seems a bit steep.

Insurance will always be on the most expensive bike.

Did you go direct or through a broker?
Get onto a broker and get onto them and get both bikes under the same cover.
If they're anything like mine they'll find the best quote and if necessary cancel your existing policy and switch for you.

They have you over a barrel cos you're looking to upgrade an existing policy.

Ring round, get new quotes, go back to them and tell them you're going to cancel cos you got it for X and see what they say.

As Bendy says they've got you trapped and they know it. £980 TPO, what year bike is it, the year of the bike does make a difference even with TPO insurance with some brokers!! Also, how old are you and any NCB? I had TPFT on a ZX6R at 17 with 0 NCB for just over 1k in a good postcode.

I'm 23 (Tomorrow), 0 years NCB, good postcode

Problem is, i'm only going to be newly passed rider hopefully, and they seem to not like that, even though I've had the CBT for a while now

You could try getting a new quote... in a similar situation I found that the new policy was actually cheaper for a whole year than changing the old policy for a few months!

Bonus is you end up with two 'streams' of NCB as well Smile.

G's right, getting a new policy might be the way forward.
Call around and get a few quotes, then call me. Wink

Say insurance was £5000 Shocked

After 1 year or whenever you need to renew it-if you have had no claims or anything like that-how much do you think it would fall by- or would it remain so high??

No one thing makes it fall hugely - you get bit off for NCB, a bit off for age, a bit off for experience, a bit off for the vehicle not being quite so new...

Im gonna try and do a deal over the phone and with the bike shop. In both cases i'll say look: 'Im only having the 125 for a month or so-don't screw me over for the cost on this bike-wait until i get my other one!' And then i'll see what they say. Smile
