PostPosted: 09:47 - 28 Jan 2013    Post subject: Insurance... how does that work? Reply with quote

A couple of weeks ago I called the insurance company about getting my bikes insured, I was quoted £470 FC for both.

Yesterday I insured the zxr which cost me £252 FC, today I called to find out about changing the policy to the gpz, and they told me it would cost £40.50 (admin fee), or to add the gpz to the existing policy would be £85 (again with the admin fee).

So technically for me to insure both bikes has only cost me about £290 (plus admin fee)

I'm not complaining in the slightest, but I'm slightly confused about why it costs so much to insure 2 bikes, but so little to insure 1 then add another bike to the policy

The reason would be that you spoke to a retard, or a liar, or both. Don't sprain your brain looking for the logic in it.

how much was it to insure the gpz on a stand alone policy ?

thats the way i went; one bike with one policy; got sick of inflated prices on multi bike policies and that dont give any no-claims bonus on the second bike.

You have fallen into the same trap as most people. You assume insurance follows the laws of logic and physics.

I think insurance is actually a 4 or 5 dimensional construct and that is why we are physically incapable of grasping it.

Put is this way, in a 2D world a sphere would be a circle, right? 2D creatures would feel at home as they know what a circle is, but what about a cylinder? depending which way it turned it could be a circle or a rectangle of any odd shape in between. This would confuse the shit out of anything existing in 2 dimensions. Insurance is much the same it has come from a different dimensional realm and as such prices depend purely on what way it is facing that day. Thumbs Up

Oh you, so naive!

Insurance in the UK is actually far more complicated than M-Theory and is far beyond our mere mortal understanding. Wink.

Chris' analogy to "Flatland" creatures is very apt, to understand the workings of insurance you'd need to have a higher dimensional understanding which just isn't possible with how the human race is currently.

Remember, it is not (Wink) random, it is a multi-dimensional construct far beyond human experience and understanding, even the insurance companies don't know how it works, they just read it and spit out what it says. Thumbs Up.

I don't think it will ever make any sense... just thought someone might be able to explain it.

Copycat73, to insure the GPz would have been £258

I have a Degree in Quantum Physics that took me three years. I have also been insured to ride my bikes for over ten years. I understand quarks, hadrons and the structures of Nucleo Atomic Ether but Insurance underwriting policy???

Give me a break... Smile

I have been with e-bike insurance for quite a few years now. It is simplicity itself to add or remove bikes from the policy. You do pay an admin fee, but it is ~£10-15. I've got 4 bikes on the same policy at the moment.

I have struggled to find anyone to match them for multi-bike Thumbs Up

If that's the company based in Bristol I tried a quote with them and they wanted something like £900
