whats your opinions on the AIO liquid cooling solutions for cpus?

is it worth it or is it better to do a custom loop. it seems really expensive, although i dont have and graphics cards to cool but in the future i plan on getting into pc gaming, how hard is it to expand? do you have to install another loop or can you just attatch a gpu water block and put it into the loop?

can someone recommend some solutions

cheers

I have the Antec Khuler H20 920 closed loop and replaced the noisy stock fans with a couple of Akasa silent viper fans.

With the room temp being uber cold, winter with the window open and the heating off, and the fans at full whack I managed to get a liquid temp of 12c while running an OCCT small data set test for an hour with my i7 930 D0 @ 3.74GHz/1.28V.
I cant remember what the cpu or the core temps were though.

I'm happy with the results.

Pound for pound, a high end air cooler will give better results than a closed loop water cooler assuming you spend wisely. However, assuming your case layout is suitable, most closed loops tend to be dramatically neater and more convenient to work with allowing you to put the heat where you want it which is a stark contrast to the annoying bulk of pretty much any top drawer air cooler these days.

The biggest drawback of watercooling is the loss of incidental cooling over surrounding areas notably including the components handling power regulation as well as the northbridge.

As long as you don't expect an off the shelf closed loop to deliver bespoke multi-radiator performance you'll likely not be disappointed with any of the recent releases.

Thumbs Up

If your case allows for it, then add a few more fans to help cool the other components.

im either going for a h100i or a swiftech h220 when that comes out

H70 is good and the H100 is shit for a 240 radiator.

I've had various watercooling setups, started off with an H70 and it went from there. Current setup is an i7 3970x at 5ghz, I've got a water chiller to plumb into the loop and then many more overclocks should be possible.

Could start a list of equipment and say what's good and what's not so good but I don't think anyone if interested in details about waterblocks, pumps, radiators, and all the other stuff that's used. Razz
