Hi

There is a road near me that 'skirts' the outside of a quite nice estate. It's a good road without any houses directly upon it. Has some nice long sweeping bends and just begs to be 'hooned' - But it's a 30mph limit for some idiotic reason.

It is regularly 'policed' by 'neighbourhood watch types' with speed cameras, full of self importance in their self imposed officialdom and probably with giant erections at the thought of sitting down later that night with their bored wives telling how fantastic and what an amazing example of a good citizen they are. - Reality is the wives are probably grateful they have fucked off for the day and given them some peace.

My question is do these proud knob-ends in hi-vis jackets actually have any powers to report you to the prosecuting authorities.?

If so what (if any) are the best loopholes to avoid prosecution, points and a fine.?

I really would love to give half an hour of my time blasting back and to past them throwing up two fingers each time.

I think it has something to do with a warning system (am probably totally wrong) - the same way members of the public report stuff to the police. After a few, they then make inquiries?

They have no power whatsoever to stop you though. Or any powers at all.

Haha, do it! I really don't think they can do anything, even the highway patrols have no powers like that and I roll past them at 9... I mean 71mph.

There are a few round here. I slow to around 20mph and give them a nice wave as I ride past. The look i get back is priceless.

Be careful.

All they do, sometimes, is send you a letter through the post asking you do slow down and that they've spotted you.

However it's not unheard of for coppers to be standing around with the nob-jockeys and they can do something. With them all wearing hi-viz jackets, it can be easy to miss the plod!

I've heard that most often when cops do speed traps in villages they mainly nick the villagers as they bimble about without paying much attention, and get the hump - cos they didn't mean them, they meant the other ones that speed.

heres what i do if i see them, a copper filling a fixed camera or i am safely out of range of a mobile camera - slow down to just under the seed limit, drive past ignoring them, then drop a gear or two and let her rip - it pisses them off no end.

but please do not get me started on a local cyclist, i dont of they are that ignorant of other road users every where, or just here

remmber on one rideout near boxhill, i believe joe gave them the finger as he road past.
on a seperate one they were by a roundabout in bexhill (tesco, ravenside retail park for those who know it) and i went kneedown around it to my exit for their viewing pleasure.
don't believe they can do anything tbh apart from getting the police to give you notification that you were seen killing kittens.

The community speed watch people send you a letter congratulating you on achieving the speed that you did. This isn't as good as the road side signs that tell you how fast you're going but it's still a useful service.

A slight word of (mature) caution.
Yes I know these are the busybodies of the community etc. but, they usually have a point. Knowing how hard it is to get anyone off their fat arses to do any community related activities, just ask yourselves why they have banded together to stand out in the cold and wet...
Usually, its because knobheads with manly (obnoiously loud) cans like to play Casey Stoner through their villiage.
On the roads I frequent, there will be a bike passing through every couple of minutes. Even I can appreciate that it must get pretty annoying to have this racket rattling window panes on such a regular basis.
Once they have gathered enough evidence of a public nuisance, they go to plod, who is then required to take action. Strike one more good road from the list as plod blankets it with real speed controlling measures.

we have an official speed camera at the moment for 6 months in our village

sits outside my road on his bike hiding right by the hedge

now this area has a large footpath so three times now my neigbour has parked his transit right in front of said bike

so he can then see fuck all coming down the road

he is very helpful though and puts a sign up in the bustop window when he is there

wont catch me as im either leaving my road or coming back into it so slowing anyway

without proper accredited equipment I would say they can't anything.

Not sure even if it is certified etc , civilians can use it as a prove of speeding and pass it to police.

Noise they can report and speeding as well, but copper would have to take over.

I got a letter saying my triumph had been seen doing 40 in a 30 or some such bollocks. This was interesting as at the time it was in the garage in 100's of pieces.


I called the police and said someone was using my number plate but they weren't interested.
