Looking at a CBF600, 2004 with only 6500 miles, and it's £2685, seems awfully cheap doesn't it?

https://pictures2.autotrader.co.uk/imgser-uk/servlet/media?id=64649647

Anything in particular I should look at on these models when I go take a look at it? I don't know why it just seems awful cheap for what it is, maybe I'm a bit out of touch though. Also, anyone have one, how is it with reliability, MPG etc?

Thanks as always.

I don't think that's suspiciously cheap or anything, maybe even knock a hundred or two off!

Maybe it's the incredibly low mileage that's making me question it, I swear I see so many bikes with barely any mileage for sale. I've put 12k on two CBF 125s and another 5k on a 650 BMW in the past 12 months, 6k miles in 8 years is just crazy to me!

It's a 9 year old bike so no, it's not that cheap. I'd want to know why the mileage is so low.

That said, I picked up a 10 year old GPZ500 with 4,500 miles on it, so it does happen.

It's nuts innit. In this day and age over 25/30000 miles seems to be regarded as high mileage. Also a lot of folks prefer to polish their bikes rather than ride them, then trade in for the next trendy thing without raising the mileage too much. From a buyers perspective this is good news as ya can get an older bike in great nick with low miles for a few grand or less.

Makes me question the logic of buying new.

Each to their own I guess!

I'm not going to question it or give some rubbish fairweather riders comment or anything like that. If they enjoy it, great, that's all that matters at the end of the day. We all get something different from motorbikes, some the thrill is riding every day, even just to work and back, others its on sunny weekends in May, who cares so long as your enjoying it!

Not a lot to go wrong with these. Being a 2004 model, it is one of the first out of the production line. Check that the rear shock mount on the swing arm hasn't rotted, which I doubt it will have done with that mileage, although it does depend on how it has been looked after. A friend of mine has covered 65,000 miles (and rising!) on his CBF as he uses it to commute to his workplace. Is that a photo of the exact bike? If so, looking at the front caliper it is equiped with ABS so just check that the light goes out on the dash (It won't just go out when you turn the ignition on like in a car, it will go out when the wheels have made a few revolutions).

The CBF is a basically a slightly de-tuned Hornet, with around 75bhp. It shares a lot of components with the hornet - frame, brakes, front end, most engine components (both bikes share the CBR engine, although both are in a different state of tune) and they are very reliable. Valve clearences are at 16k miles on these, so you've got near enough another 10k miles to go before they need checking. If you go for it, check that it's had a good service before you pick it up. Despite the mileage you'll want some fresh oil in there.

One last thing - the seat is height adjustable - it has 3 different height settings so you can have a play around with them if you find you are too short or too small for the machine.

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

One of my best mates has had the same bike for a couple of years. The price is about right in my opinion. They are pretty bulletproof from what I've observed/read.

He regularly gets over 60mpg when riding sensibly and although the engine is very linear (some may say bland) it is certainly not a slow bike and the handling is very predictable.

The only thing I don't like about it is the very upright riding position, I still prefer a sports-tourer position or even a very lent forward sports bike position if in the mood. This might be down to me being 6ft1 with monkey arms.

Same here, I had one as a hire bike for a few weeks. Was sad to see it go, but as said it was very predicatable; no surprises or acceleration 'oomf'.. it just went. More upright than my hornet but actually very comfortable for me.

I found the screen did buffet my helmet with a lot more wind that what I have been used to though, had to duck down more.

Bought from a dealer

I've got me one of these, on a '57 plate. Passed my test on a 125 so it's still restricted, and as I've got limited experience of other bikes to compare it to, it seems a good, steady bike to me. Yes it won't win too many races against CBRs, but it's very forgiving, comfy and feels "safe".

To the OP, nice bike and nice price too!
