Hi guys, tryin to do my first service for my 2000 SV650 and the Haynes manual states to use engine oil with an API of SF/SG but no shop has it. Is it mega important? Can I use other API's?

I'm learning as I go so please go easy on me Razz

Go to your local petrol station.

Grab their own brand 10w40.

Change the oil regularly.

Thanks paddy, I've only done 600 miles on it but I want to change the oil already just in case. I'm aware to change it regularly and use 10w40 it was just the API viscosity that worried me. If any 10w40 will do then thanks Very Happy

I used Tesco 10W40 in my 750 for long enough. Only reason i changed was an eBay deal. I did find Tesco oil wanted topping up two or three times before next oil change but not by a great amount.

Which shops have you gone to?! I'd be surprised - even cheapy Halfords own brand stuff is SL (ie superior to)

Google for local motor factors. They'll probably be cheaper than Halfords. Get yourself 5L and you are ready for next time too. Thumbs Up
