Hi,

I've had an Android phone for about a year and a half now and I also own an Android tablet.

My issue is, that I have never paid for any paid for apps, all have been free.

I also have an Ipod Touch & and an Ipad, on which I simply purchase the £15 Apps Store voucher cards, or more often than not the £25 voucher cards when they are on offer for £20.

Now I can't see anything similar on Android. Now I know I can use a credit card (but no chance, no way).

Is there a Google equivalent as there is a few apps that I want to purchase.

Gift cards aren't available in the UK yet but should be expected at some point soon-ish. There is at least a GBP currency redeem page https://wallet.google.com/s/w/0/?page=redeemGiftCard#redeemGiftCard:. US codes do not work. Why aren't you happy to use your credit card?

Too many horror stories. Too much risk.

With a voucher, there is no risk, the most I could ever lose is £15 or £25.

What? There's hardly any risk at all, your credit card company will protect you from bogus purchases, google don't do 3D auth so they don't get to use that to cover themselves. What are you expecting will happen? Application authors don't get to see your card details at all.

If you're feeling really paranoid then

1) add card.
2) buy apps.
3) remove card.

My Nexus came with £15 credit, in google wallet format. I had to register the card to get the free credit, but then removed the card from the account.

Don't pay?

You have no need...

Yes you should support the developer but don't risk yourself doing it.;

Well typical I have just been stung, thanks to me and thanks to Google. (Not much money, glad I noticed quickly)

I use whatsapp on my mobile and as I had been using it for a year I had to pay.

So on my phone I run Whatsapp, I enter my credit card details pay my $1 and I am all okay for another year or so I thought.

So 3 days later I look at my phone and see I have an email, I have spent 61p on some funny sounds update. Hmmm I haven't.

What has happened my son has been playing on the Nexus 7 and it just let him buy something without any questions or notifications. The Whatsapp was on my phone, the Nexus a separate device, but alas the same google account, when I purchased the extension for Whatsapp there was no option to secure the password or no indication it would be saved. But good old google has just saved it and linked it. Unbelievable.

Well I have logged in to google wallet, deleted my credit card. But I really need a solution where I don't have to use a credit card.

Take a look at this it'll show you how to set up a separate account on your Nexus 7 for your son to use.
