What films gave you nightmares?

Poltergeist for me and oddly enough because it was a bit shit, Psycho 2. As a child, (in the 17th century) The Cat & The Canary did some damage too...

Personally (not that you give a shit) I've had worse nightmares from books... So what's crept you out the most, is it books, films or your own imagination?

Question

Never had nightmares from any horrors... but first movie to scare the shit out of me was American werewolf in London (I was a little kid when I first seen it and didn't realise it was a comedy).

My imagination is worst, still scared of the dark tbh, I always close my eyes before putting the light off lol

Never had any nigtmares from films however this used to scare the living hell out of me .. only because I had a really good imagination when I was younger and we had the staircase in the middle of the old house. Too many bad memories in and around that house.

I use to dart as fast as I could across the landing because I could see it standing at the bottom of the stairs in the same position.

From hercules tv series by the way, I've also had a few nightmares since a certain moment in my life (they weren't there before but now I can remember dreams from 2007 in vivid detail).

Not been scared by a film but, as a little kid, the mice from Bagpuss used to scare the shit out of me for some reason.

They still send a bit of a shiver down my spine now. Sad

Threads is a film that has given me nightmares, as recently as a few days ago after talking about it with a friend. For those that dont know its about the aftermath of a nuclear attack on Sheffield and the film is seriously grim. When I was in a job I hated I used to watch it on the bus home just to remind me that it could be so much worse.

I think Poltergeist is where my fear of clowns came from. It was a new movie when I was a little one and mother dearest let me watch it.

Zombie Flesh Eaters, and
Zombie Creeping Flesh

I was no doubt too young to watch them, and they gave me numerous nightmares for about 3 months afterwards...

I've seen some videos of them on Sky and such, and they do look quite convincing.

But in reality what we would have to accept then is that there are invisible people who are able to make intelligent informed decisions and interact with our world. Whilst I don't deny the effects witnessed may be real, to consider that to be the result of such intelligent invisible people is quite a leap! Scientifically I think we'd have to consider it to be the result of misunderstood physical phenomena (e.g. the "fear" frequency at 19Hz), unless proper evidence can be found.

Never had any nightmares from films but when I was little I stayed up all night to watch the texas chainsaw massacre and after only a few minutes in to it I chickened out and recorded it to watch it in the day time Laughing

Also I remember there used to be a program called ‘Strange but true’ that had Michael Aspel in it. That used to scare the shit out of me. Didn’t dare get up to go to bed…

Backdraft - I was about 5 when I saw it. Flames would engulf people who opened doors and at some point someone was cut in half with his guts hanging out. I didn't like that too much.

Critters - Again, very young, I didn't like them all that much either.

Recently purchased Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Laying in bed listening to the whole thing. Nodded off and had the most weird nightmare I can remember...

Definitely one to avoid when I start meds lol

It did me. As a kid I had a blue carpet in my bedroom, at night I would have to jump from the door to my bed because I believed that if I stepped on the carpet it would turn into the sea and I'd be eaten by a shark.

I even used to get scared of shark attack when I went to the swimming pool.

Actual nightmares? The only film I recall doing that was Final Destination 3 when I was 10 or something. The bit when the guy is in the shower and slips on the shampoo and gets his neck caught and he can't stand up so he suffocates.

E.T scared me a lot. Whenever he made his E.T noise and elongated his neck. Way too unnatural for a child to see!

I remember seeing 'The Thing' (1982 version) without knowing anything about the film or the plot. Found that quite scary.
