I did the search option and a lot came up but i have no clue....

As i have a crosser and i thought id get a helmet to match the bike, any ways, does any one know if these are legal.
Im not 2 worried about it generally but some websites ive been looking at say you will fail ur cbt if u dont match the law and stuff like that.

They arn't practical for winter. However, you can buy visor inserts that are legal and cost about a fiver, though I know a few people with tinted visors who say they are only good in strong sunshine otherwise you can't see a thing.

Visor inserts were withdrawn from sale after a major case involving Trading standards earlier this year where one of the major manufacturers and distributors was prosecuted and fined over £18,000 between them.

Unlike visors, different rules apply to goggles, and 20% ambient light transmittance is permitted providing they conform to EN1938/98 whereas visors have to conform to BS4110 (This is where the ambiguity lies between the two)

Assuming you're living in UK, I would highly reccomend MX1.co.uk. You can find lenses for all different types of goggles here: https://mx1.co.uk/acatalog/MX1_Motocross___Fox_Mx_Goggle_Accessories_155.html. It's mainly Oakley and Fox Racing based though.

I've bought things from them a couple of times (Including a tinted lense for my goggles) and they deliver very quickly. Although, as Mrchips said, I wouldn't use them for the winter. My lense got changed back to the normal clear one a while back. They're amazing during the summer though - very gucci. Smile

EDIT: Hmm... That link doesn't seem to be working. If you're having similar problems just go to Mx1.co.uk, click on motocross goggles then on goggle accessories. Sorry about that.

were all tinted visors recalled or just a certain manufacturer? As the law goes they cant speculate what you wear behind your visor (as long as its not a blindfold Laughing ) as its the same as in your car. When driving they dont pull you over and test how dark your oakleys are, do they? If its behind the visor its fine, in front of is when the legalities start.

Black visor for the day, clear one for the night. Thumbs Up

Though now it's winter (ish) the sensible thing is to stick to clear, until next March when the clocks go forward.

YHas nothing to do with the visor, it is the inserts that were legislated against, and whilst it is still legal to wear one if you already own such a thing, it is illegal for a retailer to sell them.

Don't confuse visors with inserts, and it has nothing to do with what you wear attached to the visor!

I take it things like Fog City are still perfectly legally sold then? Does the legislation purely ban those which block out too much light then? If so, were they really so much worse than people in dark visors?

Fog City are still perfectly legal, the problem with the tinted inserts is that they only allow between 3.1 and 4.6% ambient light transmittance where even the darkest of visors and EC approved goggles allow a minimum of 20% ambient light transmittance.

The other problem with the inserts when they were tested was that there was a major problem with colour recognition, therefore the prosecution was right and proper (except that they used the wrong legislation) and the fact that the two firms concerned did not even fight or contest the action suggests that they themselves recognise that there was a problem!
