This is quite incredible to watch

Quote:
Michèle Causse (1936-2010) was a lesbian theorist, translator and author. She was suffering from a non-lethal bone disease and decided to end her life with the help of an assisted suicide organization. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland. There are two organization providing these kind of services: Dignitas and Exit.

If god was concerned about human beings going to hell, he could tell them himself what they should do. But he doesn't! Therefore, I am not going to listen to 2000 years old rubbish!

She was way too spritely. I genuinely think she will have had an 'oh fuck' moment when it suddenly dawned on her that she was very much about to die. She had so much life left in her. Her bone disease was non-lethal?

Here is what I think about this particular video.

1. She has obviously thought about the decision with her family and has decided it is what she wants.
2. Her disease must be painful enough to warrant this sort of action.
3. Watch someone die of cancer and rejoice in this display of dignity.

Well... That was... different from what I expected.

Big kudos to her for retaining such high spirit to the end.

She died like a boss!

When I think how one of my granddads died: fucked heart, dying in hospital over a period of weeks from various bacterial infections, this is a lovely way to die.

No pain, just falling asleep. It's a shame the most people in the west are kept alive until they have to die, rather than choosing the time and place themselves.

There was one, not sure why it would not have shown for you.

My views: it just seems a little wrong. I understand there are people who have such illnesses that will hugely impact their lives and make things very bad for them, sometimes for many years, and until I see a loved one or myself in this situation, I cannot truly understand. But suicide hugely goes against my current nature, and that is of absolute survival.

I've seen lots of fucked up stuff (mostly thanks to BCF) but watching someone willingly end their own life even in such a calm way makes me feel slightly uneasy.

It wasn't comfortable watching.

I have no opinion either way on assisted suicide for the record. I do have an issue with conventional suicide where loved ones have to put up with the aftermath of that persons unforeseen death.

I think that's a nice way to die when you may have something really nasty like pancreatic cancer or something (worst type).

I just don't get why we don't allow this here? It should be OUR CHOICE if we want to do that. Not be kept alive for as long as possible and be in the most amount of pain until finally giving up.

I watched my nan basically dehydrate to death in a hospital bed. It was such a horrible thing to watch and it was a decision made by the doctors to not keep hydrating her because she couldn't take it.

What's more dignifying? CHOOSING to drink a mixture of barbital of your own accord and just snoozing off like that woman with her friends/family/whoever by her side? or dying a slow and painful death in a hospital bed with only a couple of people there because it's 3am in the morning?

I think it's truly fucked in the head what goes on here sometimes in hospitals.

I was surprised at how easily she coped with her own suicide.

Then I remembered she was French.

Yup, surrender comes naturally to them.
