It's worth knowing you can do this. How to re-use ordinary cable ties again and again.
I tested it today when removing my milk bottle handguards that were secured with cable ties. That was 8 cable ties removed without damage and ready to reuse. I know they're only cheap but still!
I used the littlest screwdriver you get in those cheapie "precision screwdriver sets". |

Almost 6 minutes to show how to undo a zip-tie, and I thought talking too much was a women's trait...!! ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Awesome, how to weaken my zip-ties so that they can fail at a crucial moment!
Given that the majority of their use is as emergency items, to attach or secure something that you really DO NOT want to come undone, do you really want to risk it for the sake of a fraction of a penny?!
No thanks, they're cheap enough and small enough to store tons on the bike, no need to be such a cheap tit. ____________________ 2005 Honda XL125 V5 Varadero - Current bike |

I replaced a load on my bike with re-usable cable-ties. Job done. Can also be released with one hand. ____________________ 22PlusY

Fine for anything non-critical but releasing a tie using that method will weaken the plastic spring and make the tie much more prone to failure. Ties aren't expensive in the scheme of things.
Reusable ties usually have either a metal spring or a heavier plastic one. If i need to change a tie around from time to time then I'll usually use a velcro one. |
