I few months back I bought a DR-Z400SM supermoto. Included in the deal was a set of plastics, spare tank, spare exhaust and a set of dirt wheels. It's taken a while, but I have now finally managed to turn it into a dirt machine. Why did I take so long? Well the supermoto is so much fun I really didn't want to change it over. Also, it meant having to split the chain so I was reluctant to do it. ....more pics

It did confuse me a tad. All makes sense now.

You taking her off-road then or you just fancied a change in looks?

Hmm, not sure why you bothered swapping so much over.

When I used to go from SM to MX, I could do the YZF450 in about 15 minutes. I used to ride the lanes on Saturdays with the enduro boys, then swap to SM for the Sunday ride out with the sports bikes.

2 sets of wheels, MX, and SM. Both fitted with discs and sprocket.

Obviously MX rear had a bigger sprocket, and SM front had a bigger disc.

So I had a piece of chain (With 7 or 8 links in), which I would add into my chain for the MX sprocket.

And I had a billet caliper bracket for the front, to get the caliper to clear the 320mm disc on the SM setup.

Other than that, and a slight suspension tweak, it was a fast easy job to swap.

It should only take me about 30 minutes to swap over now. I'll keep the SM plastics and tank off and just swap the wheels and chain and front sprocket over. I don't need to do anything with the brakes. The only downside is the huge great disk on the front.

And as for riding with the sports bikes, I got a tuono for that Razz

Makes sense if you have two bikes. I only had the one. But the 450F held it's own with the 1000s anyway. Cool

I am not sure how long it would take to swap the SM wheels over on my XR400SM back to the R wheels, but it would take longer than 15 minutes for me,as I use differant brake pads for the SM wheels, differant chain and suspension settings.
But as I have the KTM for Enduro I doubt that I will ever swap things back on the XR-SM.

As for the sport bikes,it is nice to have the choice
