What's a good brand name for brake disks? Never thought I'd have to worry about it, but after the apparent attempted theft of my bike, I now need one for the side which my u-lock was attached. $250 for just the one, so I'm not entirely opposed to a pair of them if they offer the same performance or better at a price near that of what I'm going to have to pay for one from the manufacturer.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
p.s. I would have tried wording this post a bit better and/or thrown in some politeness but I just got out of work at 9pm and I've got to be back in to open at 7am. Bastards... ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/californiarookie/04gsxr600/

WHAT? someone tried to pinch your bike?? did you just have a disc lock fitted? and how badly did they damage the disc trying to get the lock off? I have made my own locking system where a piece of steel rod 14mm in diameter with a 60mm disc 5 mm in width is welded on to one end of the rod and at the other end a 6mm hole is drilled to allow a top quality pad lock to lock it in place through the front axle and then I just made up my own base plate from 8mm thick steel and drilled 5, 10 mm holes to bolt it to my concrete garage floor but by using lock nuts from an auto accessories shop and I am in the process of making another steel rod to slide through the swingarm pivot that way it cant be taken with out a whole lot of pain in the ass stuffing around to get the locks off ohhh and I am not sure where to get brake discs from but have a look at the demon tweeks website I think it is www.demontweeks.co.uk ____________________ Those bloody footpegs......they ought to do away with em! |

Hi
At UK prices a set of flash disks would start at around £300 (close to US$500). You can buy replacement rotor kits for about £70 (these come with new bobbins, and you cut the old disk from the carrier and attach the new one, no use if your carrier is damaged).
US$250 might be your cheapest solution for a single complete disk if buying new.
All the best

I believe the acceptable tolerance for variance on a brake disk is about .010mm, with me left one being at .002 and me right one at a lovely .092 at the moment. I was completely unaware of anything being amiss until after I got moving and discovered they didn't work while in motion. This was at about 9 o'clock at night, so I couldn't really see what, if anything was wrong. After taking it in and having a chat with my local Suzuki tech, I remembered that my bike was in a slightly different position than I had left it a few hours prior and a closer inspection of my little rubber-covered u-lock revealed that it was pretty badly chewed up, when it had been in pristine condition when last I saw it. No tool marks that I can tell, so I'm assuming some 'drug-addled teenager' tried to roll off with it when I wasn't looking and got frustrated by the fact that it wasn't willing to go with.
As for $500 for a set of rotors...damnit! I don't want just one, but I guess that's what I'll have to do.
Thanks gent's,
