Which one would you go for if you were to use it all year around?

About 30 miles (dual carriageways + country roads) in my case.

Y NO GSXR1000.

But no.. I went for Street Triple.

Why..?

Because I had a GSXR750, would do it but it was quite easy to spank it above 120 with no real effort.

VFR800.. Hmm, for me a little overkill unless I was doing 80+ miles.

Triples are great around towns, some carriageway work and twisty roads, would prefer that.

I went for the VFR.
More flexible when not on commute. Nice in the twisties and can tour very well. So good all rounder.

I don't commute, nor have I a sports bike, but I've heard that sports bikes are good for commuting due to their narrow profile when filtering. If you're likely to be cutting through town centre traffic or stood still duel carriageways, it may be a point to consider.

30 miles each way or total?

Naked bike - pain in the arse when its wet and cold. I likes me some fairing to hide behind.

So its the 750 or the Viffer. How much do you care about running costs and stuff? What are you going to be doing with it when you're not commuting? If I liked distance I'd veer toward the Veef, if I liked trackdays I'd get the Gix.

That is a bit tempered by the fact that their turning circle is usually shit. So you can find yourself 25 point turning to manoeuvre round a bus while some ponce on a Lambretta just turns 90 degrees and fecks off.

(I use a GSXR1000 to commute into London, I know of what I speak!)

I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons of each bike tailored to your journey. Which attribute do you value most for your commute?

Total.

I know that I want to hit the track sooner or later, so it seems the Gixxer fits the bill.

I'd probably choose your current Versys.

Better MPG, comfort, wind protection, good at road speeds, cheaper tyres and less heavy on them.

The street triple is worse.

In answer to your question though, none of the above. The VFR is too 'old man', the Suzuki is not really comfortable enough and the street is unfaired.

I'd buy a J model ZX6R personally, or at a push an early alloy framed CBR600F.

That I only do it once a week. I can put up with the flaws once a week. Thumbs Up

If it was daily, I wouldn't be using that bike. It eats tyres, the petrol tank is too small and it needs the oil changing too often.

So you keep telling me.

But since I was commenting on sports bikes, and the street is essentially a naked sportsbike, it would be covered by my 'turning circle is shit' generalisation.

The point is, you'll probably get through London gridlock more easily on a CB250 or a scooter than on a sportsbike. Cos that's what they were really made to do. But weaving through chaotically-stopped traffic is only a small part of most peoples commute.

I enjoyed the 1000 more than the 750. Was great fun but also did what you wanted it to do, it sat at 30/70 if you wanted. But it could fuck of and do 160 with no effort.

Superb Laughing

My CBR600FW is perfect, sporty, yet comfy - fast when wanting a hoon yet okay on MPG for commuting. Thumbs Up

So basically the OP has chosen three pretty unsuitable bikes, and we're here offering some slightly less unsuitable options! Laughing

Pretty much. Laughing

My actual reasoning was:

VFR ergo's fit me perfectly, and that doesn't happen often with my height without going adventure bikes for legroom. (making it one of few "sporty" bikes I can get)

Street triple does as well. Maybe not so much, but it's still doable.

As for Gsxr... well, I had simply that little moment of insanity thinking it would be a good idea Razz

Second the awesome well mannered, easy to start, fuel sipping, lope along on a whiff of throttle, instant drive out of every junction, commuter legend that is the KR1S! Thumbs Up

But if it has to be a bike on your list, id choose the VFR Vtec. I think it would be fairly interesting, and it's said to be far more peaky than the older VFR800's, so giving a more exciting ride when you get to open it up. I don't think they are dull or boring at all, and I disagree that a J1 ZX6R would be much better. But the main reason id choose the VFR is that I like the underseat pipes and futuristic styling compared to boring looking street bikes, and also because if it has loud cans and if you closed your eyes, you could pretend it's a 2012 R1, which on sound alone is a highly sexual thing!
