Been doing a bit of motorway driving today and am absolutely disgusted at the amount of "average speed" camera systems there are, particularly in heads of the valleys road. Its particularly frustrating when such systems are used to enforce 40mph speed limits ON A FUCKIN MOTORWAY!! A frustrated driver is NOT a good one. Im gonna rub mud all over my number plate. (Sorry officer, I blame those dam farmers leaving it all over the road).

Rant over, what are the safest ways to speed through these areas without getting caught? I think my mud on a plate idea is shit hot, mostly because its very plausible but also points out the fact that mud outside field entrances is a nuisance innit?

If your riding your mc, then I don't think they can catch you as most are front facing, unless you have a plate on the front !
There are threads about it on here.

In the car, cruise control + tunes turned up Cool

On the bike they are a complete pain in the arse, and i'm sure they have turned a few cameras round to grab rear plates.

My youngest daughter got caught doing 85 in a 50 average speed on the motorway. I didn't think Suzuki Swifts could go the fast Rolling Eyes .

She's on her 2 year 6 points time, so I wouldn't be surprised if she is back on a provisional soon, silly girl.

Unless they are rear facing, which I doubt they are, just ride through them at whatever speed you like.

next time you go for a chinese nick a leaf off one of the plastic plants they all seem to have, glue it with some clear sealant to your number plate obscuring a number/letter or two, job done

my car came with some huge screws holding the front number plate on, when I go into the local petrol station that has ANPR you can see my numberplate on the screen easily readable but the system misreads it because of one of the screws holding it on makes it think its a different letter

Iv seen people stick tape over very carefully to make 0 read 8 and the likes.

I know you can speed through the gatso cameras if it is facing you, as they don't flash at oncoming traffic encase they blind the driver

Link https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/gatso.htm

However I think these average speed ones are just for the government to get another tax out of us.

I never speed anymore Wink To worried I will loose my licence and will have to sit all the new tests.

If they're facing towards you, they don't catch you.

I've done 80-100mph through these zones before with a speed limit of 40-50, never heard anything about it. What you have to watch out for are police cars (marked and unmarked)!

However some are rear facing, designed to catch bikes.

Be sure to exit the controlled zone on two wheels: that's where the Kojak with a Kodak will be waiting for everyone to floor it.

They face in the direction of travel.
I've seen them on the M5.
They hide them behind those overhead signs and check your speed as you go past them.
Being on a bike wouldn't make a difference.

Assuming slower means better mpg as some seem to assume, then the government could actually lose a few quid. As for never speeding, my license would become almost worthless anyway. Think of it this way who do you think gets the most shag requests, James Toseland or James May?

Edit: If a speeding driver passes a GATSO and I happen to be coming the other way, Im gonna claim it gave me arc eye.

When I exited a green lane the other day, I cleaned my number plate of mud. I was suprised how easily my smartphone seemed to pick the plate up despite it being dirty, before I'd rubbed all the mud off. Like, looking at the screen of the phone it seemed to me that I could read the plate more easily than I could with my naked eye.

Which makes no sense to me. Maybe I just need glasses. Embarassed

On the M25 Anticlockwise from Guildford towards Kent there's a 50mph limit enforced by series of average speed cameras, they're alternated front-facing to rear facing as well so I bet they time bikes between the rear-facing ones.

In my opinion, this seems like an ideal 'fuck-you' retort to that sort of enforcement.

Yeah but what you're then toying with is the possibility of a traffic policecar reading your numberplate to do checks on insurance etc. to find either 'this car doesn't exist' or 'this blue Ford Focus you're looking at is meant to be a silver Mercedes Benz'. Confused

I used it to nick petrol once coz I was pissed off rather than skint. In addition to what you just said, its also something you may only get away with a limited number of times. The cops will soon identify you by your description, vehicle colour and any potential marks or features that stand out on your vehicle. One guy got away with nicking petrol about 37 times using false plates before the cops eventually pulled him over and found false plates in his boot.
But as a biker I have to balance the potential rewards with the potential consequences. Its what I fuckin do.
