Built my new rig before Christmas and have struggled ever since to sell or figure out a use for my old machine.

I've got a 4TB NAS, WDTV in the bedroom and a HTPC in the living room.

Family aren't interested in it due to laptops and tablets so I'm seemingly stuck with it.

Spec wise...

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition @ 3.6Ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
AMD RadeonHD 3870 512MB
250GB HDD
DVD R/W
Wireless G Card
Zalman Fan Controller
Coolermaster Centurion 5 Case

So, ideas?

Was up for £200 but I'd take £150 just to get rid of it.

There is your problem ^^

People can pick up laptops for 100 quid on gumtree or the likes. As people said. Keep it. We are all laptops in this house but i keep the old computer set up in the spare room for emergancy. I also dont download with the laptop. I turn the old computer on just in case i get a nasy virus or something.

You will probably have more luck getting what you want if you break it down for parts,

The cpu and gpu are not going to fetch a lot Maybe £50-70 if bidding goes well, ram well ddr3 is pennies now so maybe £20 for that, the motherboard seems decent enough spec (cross fire, 16gb ram, dual lan, phenom II x6 support) so should sell, The only one on ebay atm is going for around £100.

Then the case, psu, heatsinks and drives etc will fetch a reasonable price if they are decent spec and condition.

The other option would be to just sell the gpu+cpu, put the cash towards a 95w x4 955(used £60-80) and splash out £80 on a hd7770 to turn it into a nice mid range gaming machine.

It is possible to unlock the two hidden cores in that CPU, I'm pretty sure the motherboard has ACC capabilities if you wanted the extra threads.

I'd probably turn it into a headless server, so out with the graphics card and in with the Linux. Bit of a power muncher I suspect, but still, playthings..

[Disclaimer]
Activating the two hidden cores could cause instability (yay BSoD) Sometimes, you'll get two extra cores that are stable, sometimes only one, it's not unknown for both extra cores to be duff.

I bought the CPU on the off chance that might be possible.

It isn't. Rolling Eyes
