Took the rear brakes apart on my dt/tdr thing to try and work out why they were making such a metalic noise, Shocked and well i found it hilarius that the last owner had inserted a pad around the wrong way Laughing
(ie one was facing way from disk)

Bike was riding rough with no acceleration so pulled into (local-ish) motorcycle dealer. Mechanic there tried to convince me that the big end had gone - major work/new engine & mega money.

Turns out one set of coils gone and only running on 2 cylinders - fixed for £20 from breakers.

Funny enough I don't let them do any work on my bike, although unfortunately they're rather convenient for MOT test.

You should've seen the wiring on my CB125TDC when i got it.

Someone had removed the fuse (presumably because it kept blowing due to an intermittant short they had created in another place) then twisted the ends of the wire together and stuck them down with eloastoplast Shocked I shit you not!

The worst bodge I have ever seen was on my mate Ants BMW ratbike. All the worse because he knew exactly what he was doing. One of the lugs on the fork stanchion snapped off meaning he had nothing to secure his brake caliper to. As the bike was due an MOT the next day, he made a new one using plastic metal and painted over it. It somehow passed the MOT like this but he dared not use the front brake at all as it would have snapped off. He turned up at a rally later the same day having ridden around 200 miles (including motorway) with no front brake and all the wiring pulled out of the headlight because he had a 'little fire' on the way over.

Class act. Rolling Eyes Neutral

Worst bodge I have ever seen was on an early rgv250.
At some point in it's life someone had killed the thread in the cylinder head for the spark plug and their fix was to simply wind a larger plug into the hole!

The bodge was bad but it ran as sweet as a nut which I found surprising to say the least.

Hi

We had a headlight dipped beam bulb go in Charlottes car. Stopped at a garage and changed the bulb, with no effect. At the weekend had a bit more of a poke around and still could not find the problem. Following weekend had more of a poke, checking wires, swapping relays, checking the supply in the fuse box.

Eventually realised I had changed the main beam bulb Rolling Eyes . New dipped beam bulb and it worked fine.

All the best

Keith

bike electrics bogded by previous owner, so that you were able to turn the head-light on, without turning the ignition on!

Now i was thinking why would anyone go to the trouble of re - wiring to do that??

Anyway with help from the wiring diagram, its all fixed now, strapped down with lots of cable ties, Minky_monkey.

Parking lights? I know it's pointless most of the time, but being able to get off the bike and remove the keys from the ignition and leaving the lights on must be useful at some point. E.g useful for being stranded on the hard shoulder.

Or is that turn the headlight on without the key being anywhere in sight?

we've had molegrips on what was left of the gear changer stub.

we've had no silencer because the pressure was too much and it blasted off into a hedge never to be seen again.

we've had the bottom of a carb fall off an old bmw RT. Only to be put back in place and 'kicked back on'.

Although the best one so far, is Paulodd fixing the hole in the engine casing on his CG with silver masking tape. Much to my amazement it works well and looks normal.

When I bought my FZR I took it for an MOT. It was pulling terribly. The stuck up arseholes who ran the garage hated anything that wasn't british, told my the bike was a knacker. I decided to turn them down on a carb rebuild, took it home.

I found one of the HT leads was off the spark plug. Put it back on, bike ran clean and sweet as a nut. Very Happy

The tuning place in Keighly told me I needed to splash out £180 on Dyna performance coils when my Gixxer was running shit. After buying and fitting it turned out to be a single wire breaking down. Carnell's fixed it for £25.

Ooooh, and some numpty left the rubber cap off the vac inlet on the 1st carb on the GPZ, funny how it was running a bit rough.

ZZR600 - pervious owner had re-sprayed the bike with the fairing still on the bike getting red paint all over the frame and engine so had then sprayed sliver paint on the engine/frame and getting silver paint on the red paint on the fairing and then because he had got red and sliver pant on the radiator and cockpit he sprayed them black which got black paint on the frame and fairing Doh!

AF1 125 - previous owner re-built the whole engine with instant gasket including the cyclinder head gasket, and used a mixture of metric fine and imperial nuts and bolts forced on the bike.

KE175 prat about bike when I was a kid. Dad brought it home, sat on the drive. Thought to ourselves, we better have a go then.

Sat for 30 fooking minutes trying to get the bloody thing to start. Quick check over of wiring showed that previous dipstick (who had been using it for daily commute) had managed to wire the headlight wiring into the earth for the kill switch, so when we had the lights switched on - no spark..! Rolling Eyes

Luckily my old chap is an electrician and he stuck his tester over the rest of it before we tried again. It was a bitch to kick start at the best of times anyway!
