Hi, today I saw news and there was a report about emission zones. They said that cities would have authority to chose which parts of their cities would have which zone. Cars older than '97 would be banned completely, '97-2000 would be EURO2, 2001-2005 EURO3, 2006+ EURO4, you're gonna have to buy a sticker for 2.70GBP that proves what EURO standard the car has.
And the big news, the same thing would be also used on bikes, bikes older than '93 would be banned completely and rest of the categories shall be known in this summer. The sticker for motorcycles would cost 5GBP. I live in 3rd biggest city in the country which means I'm f-cked
So, what do you think and do you have something like this in the UK or your country? I've heard about this but not about motorcycles, so I'm a bit curious. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Do you have a citation for this being proposed here? Something similar was proposed in France last year, but afaik it failed to pass into law since it would effectively have overwhelmed their public transportation system and put people unable to afford a new car/bike out of work.
I honestly can't see this even being seriously considered in the UK, a lot of the bikes on the road here are pre-'93 /'97 /'04, and especially considering that the UK has a long history of motorbike manufacturers, many of which are considered classics now it would be political suicide to suggest they stop people using them.
At least that's what I hope, since my car and bike are both pre '93 and would fall under the ban. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

No, I do not have anything relevant in english
I still don't know what they expect to happen. The problem is, there are quite a lot 2 strokes on the road that are, according to EU specification, green machines All those Jawa's two strokes made after 1993 are more ecological than my '91 NC27
Cities can and do not have to use these zones, but as I've said, I live in big city ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I've been looking into the tax rates for cars recently because mine is extortionate and I noticed the euro 3/4 tax rates seem to be very favourable- compared to mine. This would explain why there are these different categories as I did think it strange..
Then again, as mentioned we do have a lot of 'classics' here, the question is: Is there something in it for 'those in power' ? |

Is there something in it for 'those in power' ? - Yes, money, full bags of money to be accurate. The EU works this way, bunch of old lads think of something that'd be nice and suggest it to EU members, if EU members want EU money/grants they have to take this nice idea and transfer it into members law systems, if they say no, they don't get any money. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I don't understand how any of it works to be honest. I don't drive my car into London, I get the train. I drive my old fazer 600 hack into London and have never had any charges but I think there is no charge for M/C's.
I don't understand this emissions thing that I go through on my way to Heathrow and I've never been charged anything and that includes some very old inefficient vehicles.
I know the congestion zone is purely a money making scam but what are you meant to do for the emission zone ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
