In this scenario suppose you have a clean full car license for > 2 yrs and just a cbt for a geared 125 and you get 3 points due to speeding whilst driving car what are the consequences further down the road regarding future bike/car insurance, will it make much difference ?

Whats the maximum points you can have before ban when your on just a cbt or if you have just passed a full motorcycle test and you have had a full car license for >2yrs ?

When do points get taken off your driving license ?

If you receive a speeding ticket say 5-8mph over do you always have the option to attend a "speed awareness course" and when wouldn't you have that option ?

You are under your first full licence. If you have had a car licence for >2 years you'll be able to get 12 bonus points.

its often down to the officer dealing with it.

just because you were only a few mph over doesn't necessarily mean you'll be offered it.

No it isn't down to the officer.
It's down to a toss of the coin when the paperwork's processed.

As Paddy made ref to, the New Driver and Rider regs only come into play after your first test, car or bike, whichever. You are then on 2 years probation, during which if you collect 6 points, you will lose all full entitlements, going back to being a learner, and starting again. If you have more than one category when this happens, you only have to pass 1 test again to regain all categories, such as A and B.

Once you have held a full licence of any sort for more than 2 years, the normal 12 points rule applies.

It's 6 points to be affected by the New Drivers Act.

6 points in first two years of passing test = bye bye licence under the new drivers act.
Revocation of your licence under this act is not a ban of any length, just means you have to apply for provisional licence again, do theory and practical tests and will have 6 points on your licence.
But..... the new drivers act only applies to youre FIRST FULL LICENCE.

i know this because i learnt the hard way, i got 6 points on car licence within 2 years of passing my test. Had licence revoked at court, got licence back and passed bike test Thumbs Up .6 points on licence but first 3 due to be wiped soon, new drivers act doesnt apply to me now as its not my first full licence, usual 12 point rule

Points are all valid for three years and stay on for 4 years for most offences, but major ones stay on for 11 years - drink driving etc.

With regards to affecting insurance, it could put the price up, but the first 3 don't always.

As a new driver it might be best to bend over and lube up...

points earned on a car will affect bike insurance and vice versa, the question asked is 'any motoring convictions?'

And where. It's at the local force's discretion whether to offer speed awareness. Last time I checked, my local don't! Thumbs Down

Bit of a thread hijack, but I reckon there is a more interesting question. For those who have in the last 2 years passed their bike test and who didn't previously hold a full license (so those new riders who fall into the 2 year new rider/driver thing), what happens if they are under 24 and get 6 points & lose the license. When they get it back, if say they are a 17 year old, will they find themselves stuck under the new license laws and now stuck on a 125 again ?

(doesn't affect me btw)

They'll be re-doing your test under the new laws so my guess is yes. I'm currently 19 and passed my test in November, if I lose my licence the day before I became un-restricted and was still under the new drivers act, I would be restricted again until doing another test at 24! So I'm on my best behaviour! Mr. Green

How much time do I need to give it after possibly committing a speeding offense past a speed cam van for a ticket to arrive in post?
