Today i went to work at 8am, parked the bike in a busy area of a large hospital, lots of passing pedestrians, cars, cyclists... came back at around 2pm during lunch to see my only key still in the ignition Shocked.

I had a disc lock on it, but if they had taken the key i would have been fucked.

Then later, clearly not having learned from my earlier mistakes went into a tesco petrol station, must have left the key under the chip and pin machine, was still there when i went back in Shocked

I then brought a my first single lucky dip lotto ticket since the lottery began.... Laughing

I'm increasingly in the habit of clipping the bike/car key onto a belt clip (then usually pushed into a pocket unless only very briefly stopping)
The confusions arise from wearing different jackets so you can't have a set place you always put them!

I've occasionally dropped them in the helmet with gloves on top only to forget and have a minor panic when not in usual pocket - then realise they could easily have fallen out a various points while carrying it about.

Once left mine in the ignition all night, parked on a road-side. Didn't get nicked. Luckily.

All they have to do is take the keys, you'll assume you've lost them somewhere, then they'll nick it later.

Come to think of it I was not wearing the usual bike jacket today.

The yellow disc lock reminder cable i used is too .... Gagged

Going to look for a suitable replacement chain. Thumbs Up

I've just had to go out to the kitchen and double check my key is in the bowl where it should be. It's there, but had it not been it wouldn't have been the first time I have left it in the bike outside!

I'm a creature of habit so whenever I break it I forget things. My NSR125 saw me leaving my keys hanging out the seat-lock several times whilst out and about in town. Would return a few hours later to find them just hanging there. Extremely surprised it wasn't stolen.

Never done it when out and about. Left them in it a handful of times when getting home though.

Alright, let me get this straight, if you leave your key in the ignition box, no one nicks the bike, but if you have a chain on the front wheel, disc lock and take your key with you, the bike's normally gone by tomorrow, doest this work in the UK in general? Laughing

Wotcha.

I'm a bugger for doing it - probably stems from my days of owning bikes which never had keyed ignition systems.

I've left my key in the seat lock on my Honda a few times. Thankfully it's been dark and not obvious, as someone could just take it out, stick it in the ignition and ride off :/

Did it a couple of times when i first started riding. I'd suggest sticking something on your keyring in a bright, bold colour that'll always grab your attention. It's a pity they don't design a system that alerts you when you leave your key in the ignition, like a tone of buzzer. Could be activated when the sidestand is put down and the ignition is off.

I did it too often. Now I use a springy cable thing to clip it to my jacket. It's pink, for extra forget-me-not garishness. Very Happy

I keep my alarm fob around my neck on a bike-it chord thing with a metal springy lock thing on the end. When I park the bike up, I immediately whip the keys out the ignition and clip them to the fob.

Works pretty well, I never need to worry about my keys falling out my pockets whilst I'm walking around.

Done it once myself..

It is a good feeling once you've realised and imagine it being missing when you get back to it, then you anticipate what you'd do right until you're round the corner - then you actually see it.Chequered Flag
