Right, I ride from Tipton to Bridgnorth and back again every day, thats 50 miles a day.

My bike seems to have a little less oomph, its still good upto 60, it just takes longer getting there. Also, when im using just engine breaking to slow down the bike seems to judder. Also, the bike seems to want to stall alot.

Ste has suggested a bit of much clogging the carb. Any more suggestions?

Its coming up to a service, gonna book it in tomorrow for the weekend/monday. Should I just leave it till then?

Thanks for any info's you guys can provide! Thumbs Up

Muck in the carbs seems to be not an unusual problem when bikes start to do this kind of thing. I would assume you've made sure it's running on all its cylinders already.

I would perhaps mention it to them and ask them to clean the carbs out, or at least ask them what's wrong with it. The only problem is, cleaning the carbs out is a relatively easy job to do on your own, and it's all money to them (they want more of it).

Does the bike idle properly and easily, or have you had to turn up the idle speed to get it running without stalling? That's usually the indicator of carb muckiness I think.

I havnt had to adjust the idlespeed, it runs as it normally would. Its just the engine breaking thats juddering, and it wanting to stall alot.

well as i said, try cleaning the carbs out, what i would do, simple to do yourself, just wach the jets, screw it all the way in (counting the turns) then out Razz

It would be worth having a look at the carbs and cleaning them out yourself if they need it as it's not complicated and not really worth paying ~£30/hour for a dealer to do a simple job.

Well, I dont think Ill need to now. Ive just been up tesco-needed some smokes. It wasnt doing it. Which I find a little strange. As it was doing it all the way to work, and all the way back. But, I leave it in the garage for 2 hours, come back to it, and it dont do it!

Bikes, who'd have em?! Wink

It may just be something simple like the spark plugs, my bike was running pretty bad and i just changed the plugs and it made it run much smoother and gave it a bit more umph.

Well last night I was on a mission from work. Sent to another store, to pick up something for the meat counters.

Well, I got to the other store fine. Thier carpark is built on a little hill. I was just starting up this hill. And my chain came off.

Simple fix, if I had my tool kit-I left it at home (grrr!). So, since my dad is away on business, I called the AA-who Ive got free membership with form when I bought the bike.

I had to wait from 730 to 930 for pickup! I mean, if a few snow flakes can mean 2 hour delays, what happens when it comes down, and comes down hard?

Wotcha.

You may have answered your own question there. A slack, dry chain will cause all sorts of strange vibration, not to mention killing the teeth on the sprockets, and if you're really lucky, when the chain comes off it jams behind the gearbox sprocket and takes a nice chunk out of the engine casings. Been there - done that Embarassed
admittedly the chain won't cause the engine stalling problems - but I'd keep a beady eye on the tension and condition of that chain.

YEP sounds like a tight spot in the chain to me best to get a new one as soon as possible, I had exactly the same problem on my 1990 model ZZR 250 and adjusted carbs and changed spark plugs before checking the chain, I think it was all those times I tried to lift the front wheel in 1st gear at 12000 RPM at 15mph that caused my tight spots Laughing but also sounds like fuel is slipping through the needle and seat could just need the carby/s cleaned out with a reputable acetone based cleaner

no that is probably a tolulene based product that has a sole purpose of increasing octane RON rating only, an acetone based cleaner normally comes in an aerosol can and is used to disolve varnish and gums from todays fuels it will clean up the throttle bodies, jets, idle controls, levers and linkages like new Very Happy , it is also a great cleaner for all that baked on grease! just try not to get it on the paint Thumbs Up
