When people have upset me on the road, I have tried various things. Middle finger, both fingers, screaming and swearing but the thing that works best for me is shaking my head. It is amazing how much this p1sses bad drivers off.
Next time someone nearly kills you, stay calm, look right at them (this works best if you can pull up next to them) and shake your head. It really grips their sh1t.
It's the best way to belittle someone and really upset them. The best thing about it is that, you don't lose your rag. Everyone sees someone drive like a tw*t and you stay calm, which makes there stupidity more obvious.
Public humiliation.
Try it, it's great.
How do people here deal with it? |

I do the head shake too. Had a bunch of people in another car nodding and pointing at some twat that seemed incapable of picking a lane on a roundabout. Yes mate, you are a fuckwit and the world knows it. |

I tend to stick my finger up at people in a real un-ladylike way, but it makes me feel good, but when someone cuts me up or pulls in front of me I tend to wait until the look in their rear-view mirror and then shake my head!!!! BASTARDS ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

I did exactly the same thing this morning to a scooby driver. I was filtering and pulled back in the traffic in front of him just before the roundabout. When we both got off the roundabout on to the dual carriageway I got into the outside lane I heard him put his foot down and undertake me only to have to slam on the brakes to avoid rear ending a clio, he then stuck his middle finger up at me.
I just shook my head and carried on, he backed down and I continued on my way. |

For extra effect in the shaking-head-disapprovingly department you need a black/iridium visor because then they can't even see your face! |

My favourite experience was a BMW driver (SHOCK!) who tried to stop me overtaking on an A road. He was stuck behind a lorry and three cars doing about 45-50mph. As I approached he clearly looked in his mirror and then moved over to the white line in the middle of the road, watching me as he did.
Anyway, there was enough of a gap before the next bend and car for me to pull out and overtake all four cars and the lorry. One handed. Whilst giving him a "wanker" gesture on the way past.

I normally shout all signs of abuse, i know s/he can't hear it but it gets all that anger out of my system, and as i go past or i see them looking in their mirror at me i use the good old w*nker sign. ____________________ Paul

Christ, I hate the head shaking thing
It's a typical german thing, they are all schoolteachers/undercover driving policemen who feel they have to point out the error of your ways whenever you do something they wouldn't do
if anyone get's irate at me and starts flashing lights, beeping, swearing etc I just give them a big friendly wave, that winds them up ____________________ "There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright-red, hunch-back, warp-speed 900cc cafe racer is one of them - but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. I occasionally do the head-shake, but most of the time I try to keep my concentration on the road so as to avoid a metal to metal interface with the next twat just a bit further along... ____________________ "It's all about dislocating expectation"

Depends on the situation. I will wag my finger at something mildly stupid. A favourite for inatentive drivers is to pull up next to them then when I have eye-contact (which usually comes as something of a surprise to them) point at my eyes with two fingers then their mirror in a "LOOK at the MIRROR" kind of handsignal.
For the truly inattentive I bang on the roof whilst riding alongside them (you need to keep your wits about you to do this because they usually veer all over the place). For the overtly dangerous I will go so far as knocking a mirror off or putting a dent in the car but only if they have put my life (or one of my mates) in danger.
With taxis I just wait till they are stopped at some lights and open the back door just before they change (locks the brakes on in a black cab so they have to get out and shut it). They will learn nothing from this but it makes you feel better.
I have a couple of times chased after someone, made them pull over (don't ask me how, they seem to get the idea) and delivered a choice bollocking in the same tone of voice I would use with a badly behaved dog.
Not as bad as my mum who I have seen pull the ignition keys out of someones car (who had nearly caused a SERIOUS high speed crash) and throw them in a field of barley. As she walked away, the driver who had been following her (and also narrowly missed being in said crash) and who had stood patiently until she finished her tirade was dragging the guy out through the car window by his collar ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. There's a lot of angry people out there.
I've been known to use the head shake on occasion (usually whilst swearing into my helmet) but nothing more than that. ____________________ "Work is the curse of the drinking class." |

I favour the head shaking as well, exaggerated in a 'my oh my what are we going to do with you?' manner. Often gets the attention of other motorists who then heap their derision on the guilty party as well.
Blowing a kiss works wonders when someone's blocked you when filtering or otherwise held you up... just throw one their way when you get past them further down the road.
My other favourite is pointy finger. Lots of traffic light controlled roundabouts near here with yellow boxes on them - they know they shouldn't be sneaking into them but they do. You take your hand off the bars and very pointedly cock a finger at them as if to say "You. I know you've seen me and you know I've got right of way." - they'll generally stop their crawling and let you in. Works better with a dark visor and a slight air of menace though.
Wanker sign has been used on occasion, more in the car than on the bike though. And if someone's nearly knocked you off, there's nothing quite as effective as your mate chasing them and practically sticking his head through their window like Kev did once. Poor cager actually pulled over and was sitting looking very scared when I tootled past. |

My daily ride is along one of the most heavily congested routes in London - 10 miles, of which a minimum of 5 is filtering. Consequently I encounter a fair share of drivers whose lane discipline is poor. I have learned to accept this - so when I am finally seen and the driver pulls over, I give a friendly 'thank you' wave, however when I am seen and the driver does nothing and continues to drive as close to the white line as possible then when I go past I shake my head. The middle finger, horn, flip of the accelerator, or w*nker sign is reserved for drivers who are on their phone in heavy traffic, either texting , or yacking away, not aware of anything going on around them & weaving in the road. ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |

Two recent ones I’ve had….
Stopped at the lights on a two lane carriage way, I pulled off with some speed to get in front as there was nothing on the road ahead and I could just get to a cruise speed, as I was going through the gears a Beamer decides I’m racing (I’m not).
The road narrows to a single lane fairly quickly guided by chevrons and this guy is like “Im not going to stop even if I hit you off” kind of thing, so I decide to let him have his fun and go in front. The carriage way is about 2.5miles long straight, I used various gestures, wanker, double wanker, finger, double finger, for the rest of the way, I love the fact you can see their eyes in the mirror.
I was travelling along the carriage way again, get past some lights and the road banks to the left and climbs up a slight hill, it’s a fairly narrow single lane with chevrons on both sides.
Some prick decides to take me on the outside as I’m cornering and going up this hill at about 70+.
He got as far as the lights, about 100 meters later. lol.
I went up to the window and tapped on it, tapped again, and again but no response.
“OI PECKER HEAD, YOU DRIVE LIKE A BUMMA”
The guy then drives off…….fast. That’s a great line. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.
