if someone has an automatic only bike licence passed before the 19 jan 2013 they got a permanent cbt for 125cc geared bikes

what happens if that person now takes a 125cc test ?

they already have a full licence in the eyes of the law but does it then give them a full geared licence

reason i ask is a mate of mine has been riding for ten years passed on a 125cc auto

he has been riding a cg125cc for the last three years but wants to take the L plates off and possibly ride somthing bigger

can he do the 125cc test and get a full licence with the new laws?

Wow, that's a strange one.

So, he got an "A<=25kW" auto-only license which after 2 years upgraded to full A, auto-only?

First, I'm not even convinced that does give him permanent provisional A manual, although I have no idea who you'd get a definitive answer from (District Court or higher, most likely).

Now he wants to sit an A1 test on a geared 125 and get an A1 license for geared bikes?

I genuinely have no idea whether the DVLA system will be able to cope with that. He's going for a lower category than he's already got, but without the auto-only endorsement. If you reckon their computer can deal with that, then you're a more optimistic chap than I am.

It should be a laugh and a half finding out, just make sure that he never, ever loses any pass certificates or surrenders a license.

They passed the old 125 standard bike auto, meaning they have the <25kw for 2 years, then a full A (auto).

As they have a full licence in an A category, they do not have to do a CBT or Theory if they want to ride a geared bike, although they will be riding as a provisional with 'L's.

When he does the A1 geared test, he will get A1, max 125cc, plus he will keep his full A<25kw (Auto only),

That's assuming the computer can cope, which is always a worry with the dvla

Jeeeez........they got an "Auto Bike Test" now? Shocked Rolling Eyes

same as if you do your driving test in a car with an auto gear box, they assume you can't cope with gears and clutch control, same with the bike.

I didn't know you could do an auto bike test. Seriously why would you do it, it's always going to come back at you.

My mum's friend only drives automatic cars, what an absolute pain. Personally I hate automatic cars, as for bikes I've never ridden one and never intend to unless I am invalided.

I would have thought your mate would need to do DAS on a geared bike.
