So as above my tax has been nicked for the 2nd time

I don't want to keep going through the hassle of getting a duplicate and paying £7

Whats the worst that can happen? Can it get lifted or impounded without it on?

I have the form on me, can I still ride my bike?

That's why I keep the disc in my pocket and have done since 2004 without issue. Yes, Mr Borg, I do realise the offence is not displaying a valid tax disc.

Failure to display a current excise licence = £60 fixed penalty notice issued by police / police traffic warden

How do I report it and who to? Doesn't say on dvla website

So the bike can't get impounded for it?

Colour photocopy along with keeping the legitimate one in your pocket/wallet?

Colour photocopiers are decent enough that you'd have to look at the tax disc properly to notice the difference.

I'm not sure that any police officer would have legal grounds for dismantling your tax holder / removing it from the bike.

Not sure if there would be some sort of block in the printer drivers (you can't generally photocopy banknotes, for example) though.

You need a form V20 from the post office, then send it off with the log book. it's going to cost you £7 tho I'm afraid, (surprise, surprise).

You should really report the theft to the police. You never know, they may even take prints - can't see it somehow though.

Got the form, just really don't know about getting one again.

Here's a thought tho. What about putting it as a key ring on the bike keys?? Laminated or something.... Would that be ok?

Scan it, add the words "COPY- ORIGINAL HELD BY OWNER" then print it out, stick the copy in the holder and the original in your wallet.

Stick a note in the holder to saying "Disc Stolen, replacement applied for", it's easy for the police to check if it has current tax, maybe stick your mobile phone number and the crime number with it too.

Prob will leave the phone number out...

So it can't get lifted or impounded?

Sure. Where does fraud come in?

In addition, it would be indistinguishable from a legitimate tax disc behind a misty, condensation-prone window on a tax holder.

You're speaking as if police officers often walk around with microscopes.

We're not talking about avoiding paying tax here.

It's fraud.....and fraud is a serious offence. Police are quite hot on this one because of the amount of fake insurance certificates around. You may be able to get away with it in court but who wants the hassle?

Fraud has a specific legal meaning.

I use these secur-i-disc tamperproof tax holders.

Not theft proof but if stolen they can't change the details on it so making it possibly less stealable.

Just put tax into it and stick it to tank/fairing etc.

There are tamper proof holders but if the tea-leaf is determined, they'll get it. Try sticking it higher up so they cant squat behind the bike while removing it.

Mine's attached to the left fork leg just above the front hub, it's where it was when I bought the bike. No one's tried to pinch it as far as I can tell.

When you scan, write duplicate in small letters on it, then your ass is covered, I was told this when I carried a copy of my cbt with me.
I keep my tax disc under the seat, never had a problem.

Photocopying a genuine article (and displaying the photocopy) isn't fraud. Rolling Eyes
Doctoring or creating a fake tax disk might constitute fraud.
