Sooo, I had a disagreement with the sofa last night. I slipped and drop kicked it, and buggered my foot.

My pinky toe was at a funny angle, with considerable pain on the bone below (metatarsal?). I put it up in the air with ice.

This morning it's all black and the metatarsal bones above the pinky and the next toe along bloody hurt and are a funny colour too. I can't fit my work shoes on, only big trainers.

I can just about put weight on it, but not walk properly.

My question is, if I've broken anything other that the little toe, would a hospital do anything for it? I know toes you basically strap up and MTFU, is this the same for other bones in the foot?

If needs be I'll go A&E, though not a fan generally.

When I broke my toe the nurse turned to me and said "There's nothing we can do and it's gonna hurt like hell... Sucks to be you" (Granted that was in Dublin, she was really fit and had a gorgeous accent, which definitely helped with the delivery of the news)

That was my big toe. It became very swolen and went through a pretty spectrum of purples, greens, blues and brownish yellows, but after about 6weeks of hobbling around like a flid, it was fine and dandy.

EDIT:
Just read the question and my reply doesn't really help. Oh well. I would probably take a wander into A&E when you've got half a day free and get it x-rayed. My mum broke a bone just above her toe and was in a cast for a month or so. Apparently, if her foot wasn't immobilised for the bone to set right, she'd struggle to walk properly on it for the rest of her life.

It will all settle down eventually, but if it is in a really bad position affecting how you walk it could cause further problems over time.

Whether you have it looked at or not be wary of any sign of infection rather than just bruising.

You need to pull hard on it until it's all lined up properly again, otherwise it'll heal at a funny angle and cause major probs. Use a pair of pliers to get a good grip.

This happened to me... broke a toe, the 4th or 5th time I've broken one, and it but hurt too much to straighten, so left it.

Healed at a good 30 degrees on the piss, so kept catching it on things, and eventually broke it again, so straightened it up that time.

I'm alright for using pliers on my toe Laughing

I guess it's a trip to A&E after work, I mean I've no idea really if anything is broken of just sprained, or I dislocated it or something. The toe is not as much at a funny angle anymore.

I just know it fucking hurts and I'm walking like a spastic who's shit himself.

Mrs Angryjonny broke a metatarsal and ended up in a cast for 6 weeks. Might have been down to the nature of the break. Also we think she's snapped a tendon because even once healed it didn't bend on its own. I'd expect it would take surgery to sort that out.

This was her x-ray.

Get it checked out and set if needs be. Not much other than strapping and in some cases a cast.

I had a bit of a disagreement with a doorframe a couple of months ago, had the funny angle toes, they had the shades ofblacks/purples/blues/yellows.

I just wore loose fitting shoes for a couple of days, then wore thick socks and tight trainers.... took weeks for the pain to settle.

same here, does take a while for the pain to go though, not a door frame in my case but my flip flop clad foot ran into my hubbys size 12 steel toe caps, I swore and slapped him actually for being in the way.

then i cried a bit

It looks straight now. So I'll lay off it and see how it goes. The foot is a bit fat though.

I was once told by the hospital that if it's still painful after 6 weeks... then it's broken Thumbs Up
