I'm sure it is indeed a little thing when you're on your bike on a sunny day and just stopping for petrol and to stretch your legs, maybe to grab a sandwich and let a couple of mates catch up with you, the usual Sunday rider sort of thing. However when you're wrapped in multiple layers of clothing in midwinter and trying to keep that fucking drip out - you know the one, you feel it hover on your collar just before it becomes a veritable torrent down the back of your neck - for the last hundred miles or so of the job when you've been sat in spray on the motorway for the best part of the day then it's not such a little thing when someone says "take your gear off".
What they're actually saying isn't "please can you remove your lid, it's doing us a favour" it's far simpler. What the whole policy means is "we think you're thieving scum and will be judged accordingly, now jump through hoops for us". You're criminalising an entire subset for complying with a government policy that requires us to wear a specific form of clothing (don't even get me started on helmet laws).
I've discussed this with a number of people and it generally has very little to do with CCTV and so forth, it's more the fact that the staff at the point of sale feel intimidated by crash helmets. Now why in the name of all that is good in this world should I have to spend parts of my life inconvenienced and cold just because some dozy bastard in an office is knee jerking in reaction to the fact that there are prejudiced staff on their payroll. These same staff are too bloody stupid to realise that there may as well be a sign on the door saying "No Robbery allowed", do they really think a "no helmet" policy is going to stop any would be wrongdoer, is our villain supposed to be nabbed while standing in confusion at the door and looking for a carrier bag to put over his head because oh noes, they won't let me wear my helmet in there to hide my face while I rob them!?.
Bloody ridiculous. ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

No-one said it was, but why should I respect anyone's religion? What's so fucking special about religion? It's their choice to be muslim or whatever. | Quite, Religion is forced down our throats all the time without a consideration for how little we care for it - topped off by this fucking insane idea that a helmet can only possibly be used for a fuckin' robbery. it's not as if we're there for a legible reason, like, I dunno; buying the fuel stuffs they happen to sell.

I wondered how long it would be before the discrimination line was trotted out.
Are you seriously trying to compare religious dress to a bit of safety equipment. Really?
It's not discrimination, its not even the slightest bit discriminatory. | Yes, actually, I am, and it is.
I can't believe some idiot gave you a for this little gem.
It's entirely about discrimination, how the actual fuck does it work that someone wearing a cloth round there deluded head has the legal right to not remove it and wear it everywhere when that cloth is worn by choice but a helmet which the same people in charge of this bent over nation force me to wear I cannot remove but am demanded to??

I was going to mention the cold, but then at least we don't have to defrost windscreens. That drives me mental when I have to go in the car. | How many cars high/low side on ice and throw the passengers down the same icey cold road?

If they were stupid enough to install the cameras pointing at the wrong end of the vehicle then that's their problem. | Think il use that.

I've not once been asked to take my helmet off, but as someone has already said - riding down the road to the next one isn't always plausible - I can get all the way from my mum and dads in Huyton to Liverpool city centre and not go past one petrol station, I used to go past 7. All the independents are gone
There is however an awesome little garage at the bottom of Parbold Hill with archaic pumps (just two) that a guy owns - you have to go in his garage to get him to turn on the pumps, but his prices are exactly the same as the BP up the road, and I like the idea of supporting the little guy. I'll take my helmet off to have a chat with him
As for the point of them fearing you riding off with fuel - I went to an interview at a petrol station when I was a teenager. The interview consisted of the manager basically moaning about how crap the current staff were, not one question was posed to me. She then showed me where everything was and told me if anyone drives off without fuel and I can't identify them, the make, model and colour os the car for the police, then it comes out of my pay - I laughed out loud (couldn't help myself), picked my coat up and left. I saw the chart on the way out of who owed what - there was one member of staff who wasn't getting ANY wages that month - in fact, she owed the company money. If I was her, I'd start making people take helmets off haha! ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?
Currently own - Fazer 600, 2000, Red. (But no riding as baby on board atm) |
