Friend just got a sidecar, its sitting outside his garage and I cant understand why he got it. But seeing a photo of two bikes made me think - could two bikes be joined together so that both can lean, and have the controls/engines/brakes and steering linked?

Is it possible, and would it count as a car? Very Happy

I realise to lean, and fit on normal roads, the wheels would need to be closer together than those of a car.

Join 2 bikes side by side Confused I'm sorry but that must be up there as
one of the most stupid questions/ideas I've ever seen on a bike forum.....
..........or you could put your name down for a Dodge Tomahawk, if it ever turns a wheel.

Any cheap French family car (think Picasso) will provide you with four wheels and quite unnerving angles of lean, even at low speeds.

Almost everything in this world has been done before, Im interested to know what it would be like.

Cars corner differently to bikes. There are numerous advantages to how a bike corners and Id like to know if those can be applied to 4 wheels.

Ok, they didn't have leaning - it was rigidly connected.

It didn't work out.
Mostly because they spent their time trying to steer each other into solid objects, I think!

I can't find any more examples, but what you're describing is a 'leaning quadricycle'.
Here's a weird pedal example; can't find any more.

Ah, here we go:

Just a concept.

The wider you get it, the more you'll need some kind of diff - and possibly find more issues with the front when steering tightly.

there is a distinct lack of second engine in that, which makes it easy.

I was originally thinking along the lines of two CBR600F's, but the possibility of two BMWS1000RR's giving 360bhp, from 400kg of stable, good cornering bike.

would it beat any car? or would it be like a robin reliant?

There was a turbo GSXR based Jedi or similar that weighed around 350kg and had around 370hp.

That's going to do better than any dual-bike combination thanks to the two massive wings it had for downforce. Oh and the rather wide slicks.

With two seperate power plants you're going to have some worries about differing engine output - what if you're turning left, but the left hand engine is putting out a bit more power, trying to make a tank-turn to the right?
