Hello,

My other half came out on the bike with me for the first time this weekend which was quite nice. However, she was complaining about her neck aching because of the wind buffeting.

I currently ride a Varadero and have problems with wind buffeting around my head so for that I'm looking into get something to extend the screen or redirect the wind flow over my head.

What I'm concerned about is whether this will help her or if she is just going to have to put up with it.

Has anybody else had a similar problem? If so, how did you get around it.

Thanks,
James

I just maned up and got used to it. Most of the wind will flow round you and meet at your back so she will cop it. Cant say my wife has ever moaned about it but she is an ex bike rider and been a pillion for years. Is pillion quite new to your other half? If so she/he may het used to it over time.

To be honest, this is what I initially thought as it was her first time on a bike this weekend. I've put up with the buffeting myself for quite a while but it's a right pain in the arse. I can't leave my visor open a crack because the wind causes my helmet / head to vibrate to such an extent that it gives me a head ache.

I didn't have the problem with the Firestorm as the wind was hitting my in the chest and not in my head.

I got told when I first went pillion on a friend's bike to make sure my head didn't get too close to the rider's as it would cause buffeting and be uncomfortable for both of us.

not sure if she was leaning forwards to hold on to you, but sitting back a bit might help?

I'll run that past her. She was sitting right back for the most part (as in resting her back on the top box).

Yesterday did seem particularly windy, especially down the M4.

Try dropping the screen lower, so the wind hits you.

Best bet find a Valdero forum, as this is a common issue.

As stupid as it sounds, I hadn't thought of lowering the screen. I'll try that before parting with cash.

As for manning up, I have done for months but it's something that is really getting on my nerves. If it wasn't causing me to have a headache, I'd just get on with it. Smile

Nowt wrong with a bit of wind. Tuck behind the screen now and then to keep them on their toes.

When I took one of the step kids on the back of my divvy he never complained about the wind Confused

Whenever I ducked behind the screen, he usually followed suit and ducked down too... never did ask if he really noticed the wind though (and that was up to 115mph.... on the... ummm... track... of course Whistle )

I go with that too, my bike has a touring screen to the wind hit me at eye level so I cant wait to get a lower screen so it hits me lower. The Rt screen used to direct the wind about 4 inches over my head on full up but then the bike did 10 miles a gallon less.......

I ride a TA and it had an MRA Vario screen fitted when I bought it. I took a lot of experimenting to get it at its optimum position but now it is right (lower than I initially expected) it allows the helmet to shed wind, as it is designed to do, and my upright riding position is okay to 90 for short bursts, 80 for longer.

She may also benefit from getting closer to you so that the wind is effectively wrapping around a single object, rather than two.

Of course, you could also slow down a bit. Wink
