600 RR vs Daytona 675

Hi all,

I am looking at getting either one of these. 08 models of both is the aim for sub 5k.

I have owned the Triumph before and loved it. It was very extreme in seating position. It sounded amazing and minus the slippery OEM tyres in the wet the bike ticks every box. Was relatively pain-free after 30 mins/1 hour of riding as expected from a super-sports bike.

Trying to decide which to get is the tricky part. Will be used for a 6 mile commute, my first few track-days and hopefully a trip to Spain. I know I can get some bar risers for them both. So it is bike vs bike

Pros of 675:

Noise
Engine
Looks
English brand (relatively)

Pros of 600 RR:

Honda
On reviews given 1st place out of the 600 supersports
Lots more of them = more parts


My heart is telling me 675 and head 600 RR. Daytona is a little cheaper on Biketrader which helps. Then there is the lingering thought that I could buy a 3.5k earlier model (which will have minor differences) and spend the additional 1.5k on Trackdays?

Personally I'd get the 675. Too many 600RRs around.

Then again, they look pretty much the same. So might as well go for the 600RR which will be cheaper maintenance/parts.

For me 675 it is, It wouldn't be me at all if I took an ordinary Honda over the 675

I had this exact dilemma last year, in fact I was open to getting any of the 600s.

The R6 didn't do it for me. I've rode my mates quite s bit and the all or nothing power delivery is great when you're on it but tiresome when you're not and the ride is unforgiving. The Kwak is nice but doesn't push my buttons. I discounted the Gixxer without even riding it - don't like the looks, the fit and finish and they feel cheap to me.

Specifically about the CBR - lovely bike but felt like it was made for a jockey rather than a normal sized human like me. I liked it however but the power delivery is boringly linear - like the 675 but without the fat midrange.

A few thoughts on the Daytona, having lived with one as my main transport for 10 months (you may need reminding of the good and bad points)

The sound and looks don't get old. Ever.
The front end is phenomenal. The rear is much more fussy and difficult to set up - it is progressively wound and underdamped.
Fuelling is good, fuel consumption not bad. Getting mid-40s on my mostly illegal motorway commute.
If they fit you, comfort is fine. A lot of people moan that its like sitting on a really tall fence though. I've done a few 250 ache-free mile days.
Brakes are merely average. R6 brakes feel better.
The lights aren't brilliant either but by no means bad.
Handling is far, far better than I am - given how capable all of the 600s are in my subjective opinion I think the 675 is very easy to ride fast.
The engine makes normal boring riding very easy. You can go up and down the box if you want to or ride in whatever gear you like.
BT016s are incredibly shit.
The EXUP valve WILL break.

I would go for an earlier 675 and spend the rest on trackdays/fuel/tyres.

Slacker, you didn't slack there. I feel with the 675 it makes up for its bad points, because it is that dang good.

I certainly think that I will go for one. There was an 06 Red for 3.5k on there with 20k on the clock. How long do people think the engines will go on for?

I assume they are just like other 600's and can get 50k +?

50K shouldnt be a problem if you keep up with oil changes ect, theres a couple that have gone beyond 100K...

Id have the 675

Owned a 600RR and riden a 675.

I had a 2005 RR.

Honda dont build bikes like they used to so buying a bike on that merit is no longer valid.

Trumpet has more midrange and a better soundtrack.
