...an NC700S!

Brand spanking new, manual version, being registered on a 13 plate.

Haters gonna hate.

If all goes smoothly I'll be picking it up on the first weekend of March, can't wait!

congrats! It is tough for the first 1000 km keeping the speed down, up and down through the gears and revs etc. But you get attached.

Many happy miles

That is a very pretty bike, but yes it does need a new exhaust. I'm very interested to ride one of these, they definitely look like they could make a good commuter bike. Unfortunately I neglected to sit on one at the MCN show so have no idea how comfy they are for me at 6'1".

edit: It also baffles me that they haven't come out with a faired version of this yet. It was supposed to replace the CBF600 and yet there is no bike for people who would have bought the CBF600S...that was a cracking bike.

I'm seriously considering one of these too.

I have a 20k+ mile commute to do starting April, and with the sort of MPG these things give out it'll cost me near £2k less a year than taking the car.

The Sprint's running costs aren't much better if at all than the car TBH so it's not sensible to use it. Buying a brand new NC means that I've got a brand new vehicle for the commute which means hopefully trouble free motoring, and it'll pay for itself within the 3 year warranty period.

My only issue is that if I do go down this route is that I'll likely have to sell the Sprint which means I'll have the NC as my do everything bike. Well we all know it doesn't do horsepower, nor does it do revs, so it's not going to do everything..... Oh dear.

Just finance it?

If all told it does save you a real £2k a year then that pays the finance and once you are done after 3 years whatever you get for it is profit less any interest you paid.

One of those situations where a loan makes sense, and means you keep the sprint in good nick and low miles for having fun on.

Alternatively, chop the sprint in for a street triple for fun and keep the nc700 for distance work.

It's not that - I can afford to buy the NC outright and keep the Sprint, it's just that in justification sense I'd need to work out why the hell I need two bikes. I just don't, just like I don't need two cars which is why I've not got a sports car to go alongside the practical daily.

Garage is big enough to swallow two bikes and the car no bother but it's just hard to justify running them both when I've only done 2k on the Sprint in a year anyhoo.

It's one of those things I'll have to let my heart rule to keep it.

Meh,

You don't NEED a bike and a car at the moment.

Easy to justify having a fun bike as a hobby, and the nc700 is a money saving tool.

By you logic you shouldn't have the sprint at the moment no? Whatever it does can be done by a £1500 vfr.

You're right...

But the fun bike just doesn't get used. I shouldn't really have bought the sprint - should have just stuck to a cheapy VFR like you say if I'm honest.

Anyway, it's a minor complication I'll need to overcome. Buying the NC does seem like a very viable option, though.

Looks kind of like the latest model Hornet with a more tubular frame. I quite like it. AFAIK the fuel consumption is second only to a CBF125 which sounds like a massive selling point to me.

I'd definitely consider one if i was in the market for a naked.

Owners are reporting 75mpg in the real world and getting decent mileage out of tyres too. Cheap servicing with decent intervals. It's got a lot going for it

All serious bikers know there is no 1 bike option. You face commute, road riding, off road, long distance touring and track\speed. At best 2 bikes. Some sell their cages. Doesn't work if you are a family man though. Choosing a commuter bike as a one bike option will quickly take the fun out of biking. For me the cage gets used the least. Once every 2 weeks. But with kids I must have it. Tough choice for you. Pay extra fuel and tyres on a fun bike, or sell it for a commuter. What about a cheap 2nd hand commuter?

The fact that only ride 2000 per year shows your biking needs are not being met. I do that in my cage. 8 times that on EACH bike. I need 2 bikes to also keep milleage down on each bike. No market for 3 year old bike with 100k on it.

had one of these as a loner whilst the blade was in the shop....

.. just dont get it.

was hitting the rev limiter constantly in normal riding. it was sluggish, uninspiring and well... boring.

but if you just want a larger bike that has good storage, mileage and gets you around on 2 wheels then yeh i guess it has its purpose but for me, i just didnt get it.

Under tank storage yes - fancy gearbox depends on whether you spec it that way.

Effectively it's a £5250 brand new bike that does 75mpg real world, runs cheap tyres, has long service intervals which result in a cheap Honda service and, therefore, very cheap running costs overall.

As MCN says, the type of bike you buy with your head but it earns a place in your heart. I can believe that - or at least I want to believe it, because it's going to be my next bike by the looks of it, whether I like it or not.

I've gone for the manual version.

I got a lift in to work this morning and had the bike delivered.

Now has 10 miles on the clock and I can say it is certainly "different" to ride. Not touched the rev limiter and don't intend to, even after I've run it in. It's well planted, rides beautifully. It's damn near silent but has a right meaty growl to it, too. Pulls really well.

The fuel economy is yet to be witnessed as I only gave the bike it's first tank of fuel tonight, although I trust it to be as good as they say.

It's a pleasant riding experience, I jumped on this from a C90, so obviously I'm not looking for a bike that will set the world alight. It's perfect for my needs, just how my ZZR600 wasn't, but others on here would argue that for them, it is the other way round.

Cheers,
Steve.
