Looking at my ride out photos the other day the only thing that looks really bad on my bike are my indicators. Had a look online and saw stacks of indicators for sale, and they all seem to have the same connectors. Also saw some short extenders for the cables and thought it would be convenient mounting my indicators by the rear light instead of current position so I could fit panniers to my bike.

Are indicators generally universal and fit anything?

Whats the advantage of LED indicators, and is there anything I should be aware of fitting LED's to a bike with normal indicators?

Are there any long indicator extensions (leads) anybody knows of, about 12 inches needed, most only seem to be 12cm, and are there any issues with timing when fitting extension leads?

Edited to add Leads. Didn't realise you got indicator arm extensions ^^

Just move the indicators you have. Drill a hole in the rear fender just behind the numberplate on each side and bolt them in. Good chance your indicator wires go back to the tail light then forward again to the present location. If you buy other indicators make sure you use the same wattage bulb and they will be fine. Dont know about LED as they dont interest me so i have never looked at them.

Want to change the indi's cause they look dire. Fitting them wise, no holes required, I have some black corner brackets the fit perfectly to where the rear light is and will home a set of indicators just fine. Getting the cables back that far is quite a stretch though (already checked last time I had set off). Smile

Noted on the wattage. I think thats what I was trying to ask but couldn't think of the word 'wattage' ^^

Led replacements are generally rubbish, generally not approved for road use. Something along the lines of being used as repeaters in conjunction with standard lights. If flashing speed is an issue just use an adjustable electronic flasher. Wire length has no effect. Resistors in series with indicators are a bodge at best. Lights should be all led or all bulb.

Local rules are indicator must be at least ten watts and no more than twenty one.
No cheap led lights come close to this. The mini type with twenty watt halogen globes seem to work well., they have no approval but they work with a standard flasher unit and can be seen over more than five degrees.

I dont understand why you want 12 inch extensions. That will make them stick out quite a bit and look stupid. This post reminds me that i need to order a new set of mini. Just looked at the same seller that i got my last set from. Think he has made a mistake on the price. Very Happy

Extension 'leads'! Very Happy

The leads dont reach to the back light. There is a hole at the front of the rear fender next to the battery and all the rear light leads run under it. I would want longer leads as the current ones only go a tiny bit further than the indicators current position. I would need the leads to keep going all the way to the back light, the up into the rear light unit, and out of the front of it Very Happy

Ahh, leads. Very Happy Ill shut up now Laughing

Cut the existing ones about an inch after the connector to the indicator and just solder a length of wire in allowing you to use the existing connectors. Plenty high street or internet order sites for the wire. Think Halfords sell it also. If anything like my Kawasaki the mini indicator connectors are smaller than standard so this is what i did.

Soldering? - there's posh for you. If you need to extend the leads, then any old cable will do plus a few of these:

I have used flex cut from defunct electrical appliances before. You could wrap PVC tape over the connector if you are feeling in the mood.
Of course, I am a bodger and I'm sure others will have views. The connectors might rust & fail eventually, but it will take a few years.

Bodge you say. You're still a pup. Back in my 125 days i had a DT that wanted a rear tyre. I looked in the skip of our local braker and found one with a good tread but a four inch gash up the side. I stuck gaffa tape over the hole, some thick card and more gaffa tape. Stuck in a inner tube and rode it round like that for about a year.

Disk brakes that are cable operated. I have had the cable streatch so it would not have enough preasure to pull the brake. Gaffa tape 2p coins behind the pads.

Mini Metro with a fooked clutch slave cylinder. 1p coins stuck behind the push rod to get more preasure. That one did not last long.

Old Datsun (Nissan for the pup's) Clutch cable snapped about two miles from home. Pulled the speaker cables out and used that. Last press of the clutch when i turned into my street it snapped.

Last car. Some twat ran into it and did a runner leaving my front bumper hanging off. Cable ties and hid them with gaffa tape. Passed two MOT's like that.

Oh i have did a few over the years.

I'd strongly suggest you do not cut anything on your loom.

People like to HAVE modified bikes but they like to BUY totally standard ones.

Only modify your 125 in such a way as it can be put back to standard when you want to sell it.

In my experience, aftermarket indicators are invariably utterly shit quality and WILL fail within a few months of fitting them.

I would not write them all off. Had mine almost two years and on the original bulbs.
