I think that is the right word... haha.

Essentially, my girlfriend is a US citizen that started University in England this year and her parents paid for the year upfront and I imagine would have been her sponsor.

They have since (because they are evil, childish, selfish cnuts) withdrawn her living fees so she has had to return home. I was just wondering if there is any legal requirement for the parents that have signed as financial sponsors to keep up their responsibility?

To summarise evil gf's parents signed for 1 years tuition fees, gf got through 6 months of Uni and parents wanted her back so forced her to come back by not supplying her with money for accommodation and life.

Surely because they have said they will support her, they legally have to?

Thanks,

Jack Thumbs Up

That sounds really bad man. Totally uncool. My guess is that her parents can do whatever they want. They paid for the course so the university won't be complaining, as they already have the money.

Although...

I thought a student visa would allow you to work a limited amount of hours per week in the UK as well????

Are we allowed to know why the parents want her back? Is there some hatred? Did she do something wrong? Maybe they can't afford it any more?

Nay...

The government have actually tightened up the student visa system considerably. Once you've finished they want you to leave pretty soon after rather than letting you linger for months.

The catalyst was a university in London that had its ability to issue student visas revoked. As a lot of Indians and Bangladeshis (and it was Indians and Bangladeshis) came on student visas for the cheapest possible course and worked instead of studying. Then vanished...

In terms of why they wanted her back, it was literally a selfish, jealousy type equation. She had done nothing wrong, I had done nothing wrong.

They naturally want her to be with someone who already attends Yacht club but who doesn't want that for their daughter?

They own the funds so they control what she does I suppose. Neither of her parents had upbringings worth a dime so my guess is that they don't know how to be parents. She is the sort of daughter anyone would want, loves Disney, believes in love and happiness, doesn't smoke or drink at all. Yet her parents tell her she should have weed and drink so that she is more "normal" which is a disgusting state of affairs...

But I didn't really want to go into it or it would just end up a rant Razz just wondered if they were tethered onto the 3 years contractually.

I was under the impression that international students could still work alongside their course in order to support themselves for living expenses but the hours were enforced much more strictly than before.
Nothing to worry about provided still attending uni and not going over the agreed hours.

They are probably only tied into the one year's fees and possibly living accommodation.

I've known people drop out of uni for various reasons, either deciding they didn't want to finish the course or for financial reasons, they didn't have to pay for the years they didn't do, only the years that they enrolled onto each september.

Well, does she have a contract?

He who pays the piper and all that. Get her working on the sly, the worst that can happen is that she gets caught and booted out anyway.

THIS ^^

As a human being I could never live my life knowing that I couldn't live by my own means. I want to be able to make it myself. I don't understand the logic. If the daughters make something of themselves they don't need men!

Where am I?

51.458194,-0.967712

or

23 Forbury Road
Reading, West Berkshire RG1 3YL
Currently.

I don't think there is any contract between University and le parents. But I assumed that if you could show you had the funds to support a student for three years that you would be obliged to?

The plan is to ship her out here and get her working full time in some illegal visa way. Thumbs Up

Effing derp, you're on BCF. Have a rant! Doh!

Hang on, she's in the USA? Thinking

Well, does she have beer flavoured nipples? If not, then she's nothing special and I'm not sure why you'd be that bothered about getting her delivered back to you. Plenty of local fishfingers in the sea.

I have a blog to rant shit about (which they do read) = opportunity

She hath only been gone for 3 days so its not really been long enough to get fishy finger necessary.

I am ok with it I just am concerned for my wee ladyfriend who is obviously being mis-treated. IF I CAN SAVE ONE I WILL DIE HAPPY. Sort of altruistic probably should offload but my abandonment issues from being adopted at a young age don't scream you can do it ala Little Nicky. Thumbs Up
