Brilliant advert.

But how does it apply to those two wheeled motorised bicycle contraptions I keep hearing about Thinking ?

Laughing Imagine crashing a motorbike with a seatbelt strapping you to it. Shocked

This... if I don't want to wear a seat belt that is MY own safety not anybody else.

"Oh I noticed you are not wearing a coat, it's cold outside, let me just give you a FPN for walking outside with no coat on."

If I don't want to wear a coat outside, I won't... I might catch a cold but that's my own fault not yours... Deal with it?

Really? How is that statistic calculated? I'd like to see how they work out that a person who died wearing a seat belt would have lived if they weren't.

Key word 'apparently'.

Means in this case, 'some bloke said'.

Called freedom of choice, they were never compulsory to wear, and I bet before the law was passed they weren't worn even when fitted, when I get my Beachbuggy back on the road it is seatbelt exempt, it probably wont have any belts fitted to it, mostly so I can trolololol the coppers.

You don't understand the mentality of not wanting to wear one? I don't understand the mentality of being forced to wear one, most of my driving is in a very small town, if I am popping to the shops I rarely get above 30mph, unless I am coming from work into town, but even then I rarely bother.

Years ago I locked a van up on ice, after some old guy slammed hard on the brakes as he thought he was going to crash into cars 20 foot away, still poor obs on my part and I hold my hands up to it, impact speed maybe 20mph, seatbelt which I was wearing didn't tension, airbag didn't go off, I like to say the steering wheel slowed my body, but the windscreen stopped me.

After that I don't trust these safety features, it properly stoved the front of the van in as well, wasn't a small whack.

I will await the "well someone has to pick you up in bits off the floor arguement" I ride a motorbike, if I have a horrific accident on it, I won't be wearing a belt, and I will more than likely be picked up off the road.

Same with lids, I took the CG out for a quick run on private estate where I work, trainers, jeans, shirt, suit jacket, scarf, leather driving gloves and flat cap on, was brilliant. I wont go tear arsing around the country side without a lid, but why the hell do I need one to go to the shops?

Personal choice.

The difference between the shops and anywhere else? More Police, that's about it, I cba with being pulled over at the best of times let alone be fined for not wearing something I don't really want to wear.

The town I live in is tiny, we have one copper who 99% of the time doesn't give a shit what the locals are doing, seatbelts, phones etc because there is no need, the only accidents that ever occur here is when an artic takes the bridge out.

I have 4 exits out of town, 3 are NSL A roads and the other is dual carriageway, the 3 I A roads I rarely bother with belt, the dual carriageway I do because the amount of Trafpol there.

Given a choice, for certain journeys I wouldn't wear seatbelt or lid if there was a choice. Not being funny either but in the car I drive fairly quickly, and most of my journeys I don't wear a belt, on the bike I am doing a good 30mph faster on the NSL roads, no belt there, no big car to scrub off speed, a lampost or kerb will kill just as much as breaking your spine on the window when you go through head first.

Personal choice
Thumbs Up

To me, that makes very little sense. If the seatbelt had have tensioned you'd have not hit the screen, but you're against wearing one, partially because you don't trust them?

Either way - far too much effort?! Takes less time to click the seatbelt in than it does to start the car.

@Pits - I really want to drone on to you about how it's so bloody idiotic to have that opinion. But I can't because it's true - freedom of choice and all that. I know what you mean - it seems to be more about the principle, right? - but it still is a little bit silly, you must admit.

I knew someone who got sideswiped by a lorry, ripped the b pillar out, and seatbelt constricted him to death. Seatbelt killed him.

Also know someone who got thrown through his defender windscreen and died from hitting his head on the kerb, a seatbelt would have saved him.

No it isn't silly, how is it silly? When I am not wearing my seat belt, I am mostly doing 30mph if that around town.....When I am on my bike doing a million miles and hour, I have nothing, set of leathers, some boots, lid and gloves, how is it any different? You honestly going to tell me that it isn't the same?

In the car don't wear a belt "omg you kitten killing monster, you will die omfg!"

On a bike
"omg, how fucking fast were we going then? Those were stupid speeds"
"Yeah and we weren't wearing seatbelts"

bazza wrote:

You mean like Luke, what was that again Thinking wasn't wearing his seat belt when he crashed his bike into a lamp post.

Now lets say I had a medical condition which means I can't wear seatbelts, I bet the answer I get will be
"ah well, medical that's fair enough if you can't wear one"

Me not wearing my belt has no relevance to anyone else life, chances are these days if you have an accident which you get killed in there is a little a seat belt will do to help.

It really is baffling, we have a load of people willing to put a set of leathers on, a lid, gloves and boots, then put a machine capable of doing stupid speeds and getting to those speeds quickly between your legs with zero safety features, ZERO!......yet not wearing a seatbelt in a car full of airbags and surrounded by metal gets scrutinised so closely.

On the bike you look for safety in the gear you're wearing. In the car you use a seat belt. Your gear is selected on comfort / practicality versus safety balance. In a car it's the same - we don't need to wear a lid as that's impractical - but the seatbelt, impractical? I don't see how or why, TBH. Barely even realise you're wearing it.

Ignoring the law entirely, because I agree with you the law is heavy handed on the issue, there is significant evidence of the role that seatbelts play in reducing injuries. It would be very difficult to suggest otherwise and provide any kind of compelling argument.

I just don't get why it's such a big issue to just put it on. It's comfortable, barely noticeable in most situations, doesn't impinge on movement, and may save you from serious injury. To me, it's baffling that you feel so strongly against them.

They're not mandatory in some Yank states, apparently it's a ballache to get cars to meet the crash safety legislation for them.

Not really sure why you wouldn't take the extra two seconds for something that will likely have a positive impact in a crash.
