Hi all, bought a new bike a few months back and tax runs out end of this month.
No v5 has come through yet, no new keepers section.
How the hell can I tax it?
Tried ringing DVLA but it just says its busy and they aren't taking calls...
Thanks, Grant

You cant.

No V5, no V5/2 (the green slip), no renewal reminder = no tax

Ah fuck, so going to have like a month wait before I can use it. I just hope they have sent a new one out and its been lost so at least its in my name then maybe I can tax over the phone.

If it is in your name you would have had a renewal through the post a couple of weeks ago.

I know that is what I thought, are they going to stop me taxing/sorning the bike then charge me for it?

Why no new keeper section? Thinking

Tell the DVLA that you have not received the V5C.

They'll be delighted to hear from you, and will doubtless start blackmailing the old keeper for failing to notify them.

However, I'm not aware of any way to persuade them to take money from you without you being registered as the keeper first.

After I saw your thread I thought it best I SORN the 3 bikes in the garden Laughing

Didn't realise it was free...and instant...and you can get the tax back from PO
Easy Thumbs Up

Also, insurance got pissed off once they had my license details and tried to charge me £66 to alter my policy so it matched the wrong address on my license. Also put a line about YOU MAY BE FINED £1000 FROM THE DVLA FOR NOT UPDATING THIS. Sounds like bullshit to me.

Told them I was in the process of updating it (after going through the process of updating it on the website) and DVLA are sending me a new one with my current address...now I need to send off the counterpart and V5s for updating. Thought I had to send them my actual license but is just a tickbox saying you promise to cut it in half etc

It's a chain of bullshit and hassle for no reason, and the fact they changed my policy and took £66 out my account without even a phone call or explanation, had to email and call to find out why.

Next time I spoke to them I told them to cancel my policy. Got like £110 back from it so it wasn't a total loss, but still a waste.

Fucking adrian flux cunts

Oooh as for OP, surely if you've not got the V5 you're not yet the registered keeper meaning it's not your responsibility to make sure it's taxed? Win?

Personally I can't see why the V5 is required to tax a vehicle. Insurance and MOT yes... but even then, its all computerised Laughing

It can't be that well computerised though, I've taxed a bike and car on cancelled insurance policies before, just to sell the vehicles on though

If they appear on MID, it will let you tax it online.
If not, it won't.

When i bought my first big bike from a dealers he went to tax it that day. He also sent the V5 for me and i stupidly didn't get a green slip.
Fast forwards 3 weeks and i received the V5 for the wrong bandit (the silver one that was still sat in his showroom). I went out to look at my tax disc and that was for the silver bandit as well.

So i had been riding round on a bike that wasn't taxed, no problem thought I, ring the dealer, get the V5 for my bike and tax it again (at his cost of course). Only the V5 for my bike was lost. I had to apply for a new one which took 8 weeks during which i couldn't ride the bike.

No amount of begging the DVLA to take my money would change their mind!
