Ok guys I am going to get a pair of new tyres for my ZZR600 (E7) and have around £160 to spend on a pair which seems to get me some decent makes like Dunlop etc on ebay or M&P.
Can anyone recommend a good tyre that will do me ok, I mainly commute 4 miles to work then have a ride about on the way home etc, I'm not the next Rossi but would like something that will give me confidence in the corners, not too concerned about how long they last as I don't do a massive mileage in a year (4K ish).
sizes are 160-60 r17 and 120-60 r17 I can fit myself so thats no problem
I just have no idea whats regarded as good or crap to be honest.
cheers Thumbs Up

I know 3 people who still use the Pilot Road 1 on fairly sporty bikes for general riding and hooning with no complaints.

Thats where I got my tyres from although they are over your budget I can't fault them (Metzeler M5)

Take your pick of the generation of sports tyres that include

Arrow Dunlop Roadsmarts
Arrow Micheline Pilot Road 2's
Arrow Bridgestone BT-021's

It's swings and roundabouts and personal preference. They all do very well in the wet, dry and cold. They don't take ages to warm up and will generally be good for 8-10k miles on a 600.

I can't see myself changing for the Sportsmarts or Roadsmart 2's anytime soon. My ZX6R had roadsmarts, and Roadsmarts are the only thing that's ever graced my blade over the last 5 years! All in all, I've been wearing Roadsmarts for a good 7 years now and am happy with how predictable and confidence inspiring they are.

I'm guessing you mean BT023s. BT021 don't have a good rep at all; however, the BT023s on my ER6 have worked well for me.

Nah, I DID say THAT generation of tyres - so BT-021!

My mate on his CBR600 F-S found no issues with them whatsoever. Put it simply Essential Rubber in London said "Pick whichever one you like the tread of!" For sportier bikes, the Roadsmarts and PR2's were the subject of much debate back in the day and were commendable. If you have a long search back, you can see countless feedback of people all vouching for any of the 3 tyres.

The current generation of tyres are a good 20-30 quid more expensive, so if you wish to save money, Roadsmarts were the cheapest out of any of them, and offered a very good overall compromise.

Ok, so you're wrong then.

BT021's are 'ok' in the dry when new. They wear at funny angles, become stepped and cupped, take an age to warm up and are bordering on dangerous in the wet.

If I were you I'd go for PR2's.

I never had any problems with BT021's, apart from the front wearing funny.

I stupidly splashed out on a nice set of BT-023s for mine, then sold it not long afterwards. They transformed the handling though!

The original pilot roads have a very good rep and for £140 I would say, go for it!

Looking at current prices on oponeo... Pirelli Diablos look like fair value.

In fact... I'm going to order a rear for when I go to Spain.

I've ridden on a Corsa 3, essentially the same pattern, probably a little more sport based.

No trouble on a litre bike, more than enough for a 6.

I put road 2's on my 9R.

I just changed a pair of BT021's on my E7 for a pair of Pilot Road 1's.
Never had any problems with the BT's TBH and they lasted a good while, but yes, the front did wear a bit funny and the rear eventually squared off. I have only had the Pilots on for a couple of days but they do feel a lot different and are inspiring confidence already. Not tried them in the wet as its errrrrrr, not actually rained yet!
I got them fitted at TST in Warrington for £165 inc balancing (to loose wheels).
M&P do them for under £145 plus postage and then you need to get them fitted, unless you can do it yourself.
I didnt want to do them myself cos it was cold and the wheels are 'kin filthy and i didnt want to get my nice clean soft hands all cold and grimey! Embarassed
