Ok I have just got caught doing 69 in a 50. In my defence the road is a dual carriageway that should easily have been a 70. No people, etc anywhere. . I didn't know the road and there are loads and I mean loads of cameras around here. That’s only my subjective view anyway, so they are kinda irrelevant.

The road was a sign posted 50

Actually I was braking before/as I went through it so must have knocked a few mph off. The camera didn't flash to my knowledge. It may have been dark or getting dark. I didn't think it would have been as high as 69mph.

Anyway... What kind of points will I get? If I get 6 points I’m one licence short Crying or Very sad (or is it OVER 6 points, ie 9 etc?). I'm really hoping for under 6. I need my bike. Is there anything I can do to get less points, or get "around" this matter. Or just take the punishment?

I got a 60 day ban and an £80 fine (unemployed student with no savings apparently Wink ), and i have 3 points already for 66 in a 30, i doubt you'll get 6 points tbh, just a small ban, which is good because you dont have to redo your test.

Its not as bad as what Bonny or me did so i reckon small ban.

Hi

The camera didn't flash so you are unlikely to get any kind of ticket. Even if you do you are unlikely to get a ban for under 30mph over the speed limit. Probably 3 points / £60 fine fixed penalty notice.

All the best

3 points small fine but a ban will be up to the judge, so be nice!

Yeah, no camera flash. They have sent me a form to my family's house (registered address), which I have to fill out and then send back to them. Then I'm guessing they will consider my situation and send me my punishment.

Sure I'll be nice, no probs. I want to get off as lightly as possible.

Oh, bugger. Can't you use the reason that you were busy concentrating on the road that you failed to acknowledge your speed? Or... I got blinded by the high-beams that i failed to read the sign posts because of the glare? - Use this excuse if it was on an open-stretch or if you can recollect cars coming your way. The bad thing about cameras is that 99% of them CANT ride bikes and WILL NOT show sympathy, unlike a cautious traffic copper.

I just hope the judge KNOWS what it's like to be a 19 y/o unemployed student and thus show some empathy. So all the best for your predicament. Just pray that hopefully you'll get away with it.

EDIT: Students - get a 125! Much easier on the purse and your license Wink

At that speed in a 50 I would expect them to make the standard 'conditional offer' of 60 quid and 3 points.

I doubt those excuses would work, mate.

No way I'm going to look for a bigger bike now Laughing. Rolling Eyes .

(not as if I could have anyway, due to me having no money) Smile

I could live with a £60 fine and 3 points. I don't recon they would "throw the book at me", but the less I have to pay/less points I get, the better.

l got flash on saturday doing 60 in a 30, waiting for the NIP at moment Embarassed , does the NIP state the speed?

due to my job as a trademen my bike is very badly needed, if l state this would it be considered to not giving me a ban but a higher fine?

I doubt you'll have to go before a magistrate unless you plead not guilty. They'll most likely just offer you a fixed penalty - 3 points, 60 quid.

However, if you do decide to fight it, your best option is to look for a legal loophole in the prosecution. Wrong type of speed sign, incorrectly spaced etc, etc. The site to look for advice on that sort of stuff is Pepipoo. But unless your licence is at risk it probably isn't worth the trouble.

My parents phoned me up today and told me. Yeah I guess it must, because they told me the exact speed I was traveling. I think you have about 2 weeks to find out if you have been caught. If you dont hear anything, then you are ok, but dont quote me on that.

If you didn't see a flash, send them a letter stating that you don't recall travelling at that speed and ask for some proof. I'm sure I've heard of cases where they haven't actually any proof that said person was speeding and have had to drop it.

Yeah I was thinking this. I mean they must have some proof becuase they got my speed - 69mph... But is this actually proof, and how (what form) will they have this speed/evidence "on record" ? Assuming no picture was taken, meaning they don't have one.

Yeah Rolling Eyes I want money for it. Would look really cool though, and be useful.

Anyone wanna buy it? It'll prevent situations like mine from happening to you. Thumbs Up

Thing is they must have a photo otherwise how would they have got my plate and then traced my house etc. Surely they would save the pics, and not discard them... Question Meaning my plan to ask for the pics and hope that they couldn't supply them, would be flawed.

I still want the pic anyway. So if I can get it, I will. Nothing like a bit of evidence before you hand over your hard-earned. Almost like knowing you are paying for something. Would make me feel better.

my mate at work just got caught doing 93 in a 50 past the cat and fiddle pub by a mobile speed camera van and got 6 points and a 60 pound fine

i am waiting to see if i get 3 points and a 60 pound fine for riding over the thelwall viaduct at 50 in a 40

everyone says that the cameras are front facing so i will wait and see

not sure if you could claim identity theft of your reg plate if you were flashed by a rear facing gatso!

Standard procedure for this is £60 and 3 points. It really does amaze me that people try to get around paying the fines by looking for a loophole.

Going to Court and saying that you were dazzled by an oncoming car will get you no sympathy at all, afterall what is the advice as per the Highway code on this matter? It is to slow down and preper to stop!

Take it like a man and put it down as experience.

Thumbs Up

Ok, I wouldn't have lied to them anyway, because it would probably have backfired on me... £60 and 3 points I can live with. Any more and I'll be really pissed. Thumbs Up

There is nothing wrong with looking to see if you can find a legal loophole to get out of the points and fine, I don't see what is wrong with that and I expect that if you got caught speeding and there was a loophole which you could use to get let off I bet you'd use it.

Loopholes are not the same as crap excuses, make a bad excuse to the court and you'll just get them pissed off with you for wasting their time and they're likely to be harsher than they would if you just held your hands up to it.

Simply because if you go to court the organisation running the cameras cannot claim back a proportion of that fine. If they take you to court their profit margins are hit so the would rather you take a fixed penalty.

Simon wrote:

If there is a loophole to be exploited then really it is immoral for them to even try and prosecute you.

Mind you, North Wales takes the biscuit. They have just been found out presenting incorrect data as evidence with scanned in signatures on them. So they have lied to the court and falsified signatures and all that is happening is they are being told to reissue the tickets. They should be prosecuted for perjury (lying to court) and fraud (doing it for the organizations financial gain).

All the best

This is really wrong but:
Buy a stencil set, go back and spray the sign to 60. Take a photo and let them prove it wasn't like it.

Laughing

That would be silly, I was traveling 69 (so the camera says). Laughing I would still be over.

Ok I'll see what happens when I complete the form, and they send me more info about my situation. Then I'll decide what I want to do.

Cheers everyone. Thumbs Up

Don't see the point discussing this tbh. Typical £60 fine and 3 points - just like thousands of other people get each day, it's no biggy.

Don't argue with the fine or they could increase it. Pay the money, suck up the points. Get on with it Thumbs Up
