Seems like much ado about nothing as it was 7 years ago now, so I figured the BCF massive would be able to better diagnose me.

I was 17 years old at the time, and me and my twin bro got in a drunken scrap with about 8 lads. We did reasonably well, all things considered. During the brawl, I remember taking a massive blow to the head which made me drop like a sack of bricks, but I stood back up again immediately. I remember thinking, "wow, some guy must have had a ring on his finger when he punched me."

Turned out one of them had used my skateboard as a weapon and lamped me full force in the skull. I know this because one of the guys in the gang of lads was neutral (didn't fight) and turned out to be a friend of a friend, so he told me.

Anyway, every now and again I still get a pain there. It's not a bad pain, just like a 'reminder' pain, as if to say, "don't forget you were hit very hard on the head when you were 17."

I can't really explain it and it doesn't get any better or worse, and it's really not a very occasional thing. I've not collapsed and died so I doubt I ever will.

Yes I should just go and get a head scan, but I just wonder if anybody here could suggest what the pain could be?

I've bumped my head plenty more times since then, and my head hasn't exploded open from any loss of integrity.

Laughing

Ok maybe it's time I took this seriously.

I'm not really well rehearsed with doctors and hospitals and things... If it's been going on for so long already, should I just book an appointment with the doctor and tell him? Or should I walk into A&E and ask for a head/brain/skull scan?

I have to say, that could be a depressed skull fracture. It sounds like it's cutting off the blood supply to your heterosexual lobe, which has atrophied.

Bad news!! You've got a number of subarachnoid haemorrhages and frontal lobe damage. You're going to become a dribbling vegetable and then you're going to die.

go to the doctors, A&E will just laugh at you and stick you in a corner as they have the attitude that if you've waited a few days then obviously it's not an emergency and so you can wait a bit longer so you'll be waiting ages.

tell the doctor what happened, that you know you should have done something about it a long time ago but you were being young and foolish and now are starting to worry about the long term damage that could be there.

To go deeper into the back story, it strikes me that any bloke who stands around watching while eight people beat the shit out of two people isn't "neutral" at all.

On topic though, I would agree with posters above, it sounds like there is a crack or fracture in your skull. When you feel the pain, are you doing something at the time? Flexing your neck in a particular manner and so on? Could be anything, right down to having a cough in a particular position.

Get to a doctor, as soon as possible. I have a feeling things like that could be degenerative. You could literally end up with a cerebral haemorrhage at any moment. If you do, can I have your bike?

Cheers for the advice all. The pain literally just happens at random times. I'd try to pass it off as a psychological thing because a whole region of my head begins to hurt whenever I come onto this thread Laughing but the fact is that it just sort of 'pings' with a pain at totally random times. It's nothing to do with the position of my neck or anything like that.

I would be very surprised if there was any fracture seven years after the event, if there ever was one, the bone would have healed long ago.

OP:

I would suggest that a pain every now and again after this amount of time is unlikely to be any brain injury related to the original assault. Unless there are any other neuro symptoms i.e. thunderclap headaches, seizures, collapse, limb weakness, dysphasia, I wouldn't worry unduly.

Brain injuries tend to start with the worst symptoms and then (often, but not always) improve. They don't tend to start with no symptoms and then get worse seven years later.

Its not as easy as walking into a hospital and requesting a CT (for reasons of cost and unnecessary irradiation of your brain). You should see your GP if you're worried, and he can tell you whether you would need one or not.

Thumbs Up
