Tell me some cool things to do with it and what apps are worth a download?

I'm also after a heavy duty case for it which would keep the Nexus safe if dropped on a concrete floor for example.
Any ideas?

Download the Amazon appstore app, they have a free-normally-paid-for app every day. Qualityand usefulness of app varies.

A lot are free anyway on Google, though some aren't the full version, and others have ads. If the Nexus isn't online then quite often the ads don't show.
I got free credit with Google wallet when I got my Nexus. I still have around a tenner left, nearly 6 months later.

I want a nexus but I'm waiting for them to fix the faults first. The 1080p model is out soon although I'm not sure anyone needs a 1080p tablet.

Bloke from Asus said they had a lot of issues around Xmas, supposedly newer ones are OK. Day one with mine and it seems OK, replying with it now.

Had it a couple of days now and its got to be one of the best purchases ive ever made.
Linked my email accounts, facebook, ebay, pretty much everything i use my laptop for but a lot of it is in app form so i dont even need to check the websites, i just get a notification.

Downloaded the Firefox app and synced my laptop settings to the app, so i have the hundreds of bookmarks from my laptop firefox now on the app! It is a little irritating navigating to them but at least they are there should i need to see any of them.

Also got the Tablet Talk app for 99p. It links your android phone to your Nexus via Wifi or Bluetooth, so you can make calls and text from your Nexus! Ideal for me as my phone battery is naff, so i find myself leaving it on charge with Wifi left on so i do all my texting with the Nexus now.
Also playing Snes games with an emulator.
I downloaded the Blackmart app which has thousands of Google Play apps which are completely free. I only paid for the Tab Talk app because it kept showing a licence error (must be very well encrypted).

Would definitely recommend the Nexus!

I thought the Nexus was just another smartphone, why do you need to link it to an android to make calls?

Meh, more touch screen crap i'm not interested in Dance!
I don't see why you would buy something then find things to do with it, you should buy something because you need it to do something

Nexus 4 is the phone, 7 is the 7 inch tablet. 10 is ... guess what?, ... the 10 inch tablet Smile

I want the 10 just so I can read graphic novels on a bigger screen Razz
As my Nexus is only 6 months old I will be a good girl and wait 'til my B'day comes 'round again.

A totally, completely inoffensive link that smells like unicorn farts and rainbows.

That should attract more Spam rating and the tiny fists of internet rage...

Am I the only one that thinks these smart phones/tablets etc are unsecure?,

I see people all the time downloading dodgy apps that come bundled with with what seems to me nothing more than mobile malware, often these have come from official app stores heck most of the time they are paying for the privalige of infecting the phone.

You can get Norton and AVG apps to protect you against that stuff.
Most simple solution is dont keep any credit card details on the tablet. Though even the free AVG app scans all apps before installing, and will do a full system scan no different to a computer

You're screwing developers, in most cases one man operations, out of being paid what is usually somewhere between the cost of a bar of chocolate and the cost of a cup of coffee, for weeks, sometimes months, worth of labour. Mobile app development isn't profitable unless it's a huge hit or is a complement to a different product or service.

Your pride in your scummy behaviour deeply lowers my opinion of you.

Tell that to the millions who use torrents...you for example.
(Awaits you to lie and say you've never done or downloaded anything illegal/unlawfully)
Besides, most app devs do it for the fun.

I used to work as a compiler engineer at Borland, on the Delphi compiler; I did it for 5 years or so. But I got started with Turbo Pascal long before that, in the mid 90s, from a copied floppy. I may have bent the rules a little getting into it, as a poor boy living on the west coast of Ireland, but in the longer term, I believe I did far more good for Delphi than harm.

Here at home, we've subscribed to LoveFilm in the past and Netflix currently. But my GF is the main user; I'm not really into TV or music. When we want to watch a movie together, we usually go to the cinema.

Now even if I did download movies or TV shows on a regular basis - which I don't - I still think your hypocrisy accusation would be wide of the mark. I think there are only two defenses to that kind of copying: poverty and inconvenience.

When you can't afford hundreds of pounds for a piece of software, particularly as a kid, I don't think there's a lot of harm in pirating it; in fact, I think it can help the company selling the software in the longer term, having a trained user who will eventually enter the workforce.

And if you're addicted to TV, and there is some show currently available in the US that you want to watch, but it is impossible to view in the UK on a timely basis, or in a convenient form that doesn't break owing to DRM restrictions, I can understand copying it. And I'm all in favour of having the right to rip DVDs so they can e.g. be converted to MP4 and played on mobile devices. We have many box sets of DVDs in our home which have been through that process; physical media is a PITA, and DRM encumbrance is illiberal.

But you don't have those defences. You're copying things out of sheer greed and selfishness, proud of your thievery. You disgust me.

If people balk at paying a bus fare for something that takes weeks of work, eventually the only people doing it will be amateurs who do, indeed, only do it because they can't do anything better with their time.

Or better yet, trace the (literally) hundreds of thousands of people who have viewed youtube videos showing how to download apps for free.

No, there are 12 more guys on the internet thinks the same way.

I can't say that they are 100% secure but I am pretty sure that they are at least 200 times more secure than your front door. Let's round that to 10.000 based on house burglaries vs phone hacking statistics.

A good App if you're in the UK for viewing live TV channels as found on Digital Freeview is from www.TVCatchUp.com , and it is free with no worries of popups at all.

Protective cases as you do get some good ones for your devices except the ones that state that they are waterproof, but in small print it states it should stay dry for 30 minutes in 6 feet of water and no more except they do not guarantee it will because they do not take on any liability because they cannot guarantee it will, as you encased it yourself with their cover! lol

Same with accidental drops to concrete is only tested from 6 feet or average person's shoulder height or so stating it will absorb the impact to prevent damage to your device, and being splash proof!

Otterbox is a good option for it as it is popular buyer's choice!

https://www.otterbox.com/nexus-7-cases/nexus-7-cases,default,sc.html

In regards to Internet protect AVG is a good free option to protect your device from possible harm for now, until more hackers jump on the bandwagon to try and find ways of causing problems, and I guess that's why Apple's products are so popular because the security software is built in their operating system and is regularly updated along with their operating system - that is one of the reasons why Apple products are so expensive!

If you are ever wondering what 3D games are available for your android device, plus this site shows you what they look like in onscreen before downloading!
