suggest a good wind noise canceling lid

Getting a new lid Saturday and i'm looking to spend around the £150 mark. Does anyone know of a decent one that cuts wind noise as low as possible. I know £150 isnt much when looking into good lids but its a present from le parents.

I have a HJC FG15 which I rate pretty highly.

I have an HJC IS-16 which is actually pretty noisy, unsure if the sun visor mechanism adds to the noise though.

Maybe these kind of earbuds would be better? They have little rubber plug bits and I find that they filter out a lot of sound over the usual style of earphones.

I don't believe any helmet is that quiet.the one I have is marketed as 'silent'. It definitely is not silent, how the fuck could it be, you need to hear traffic around you, bloody marketers and salespeople

I've taken to nabbing a load of those squishy foam earplugs from the factory across from the head office I work at, freebies

My hearing is already bad from years of raves, crazy car sound systems and listening to headphones WAY too loud. I need all the help I can get to not damage it any more

Shoei QWEST is pretty quiet. But another +1 for earplugs. Wore none for a couple years whilst on the scoot (just didn't occur to me!) and my hearing is noticeably worse than it was.

Does it really take THAT MUCH out of your day to spend 20 seconds putting them in?

If I put my chin on my tank, even my noisiest helmet makes absolutely no noise, as there is no wind.

Otherwise earplugs.

I use headphones every day, I tend to be quite aware of whats going on.

What do I really need to listen for. I used to drive a loud car and have my music turned up anyway.

There are a lot of myths about this subject, I'll attempt to dispel them in a mythbusters sty-lee:

1.) You can buy a 'quiet' lid.

Busted. The noise made by each lid depends on the shape of your head, the riding position of your bike and the screen/aerodynamics of your bike. The shape and design of the lid is a minor aspect of it, and so some people find lids they use are quiet, others find the same lid noisy.

2.) It's too much 'hassle' to put ear plugs in

Busted. It takes about five seconds per ear and will probably save your hearing. They are cheap too, I got a box of 300 pairs of quality Max Lite earplugs for £16 last year.

3.) Earplugs prevent you from hearing stuff you need to hear

Busted. By far the loudest sounds you hear on a bike are the wind noise and the engine noise. The Earplugs deaden these to an acceptable level. The rest of the quieter sounds are still audible as the earplugs attenuate the sound rather than reduce it's volume across the board.

4.) Wearing earphones will save your hearing

Busted. The only way they'll save your hearing is if they are moulded earplug type earphones, and even then knowing Paddy's taste in music I suspect he listens to them far too loud to be good for his hearing. Noise cancelling earphones might work, but they would probably cancel the important noises that you can hear when wearing earplugs.

I don't get when people say they use those in ear headphones with music blasting straight into your lug hole as some form of ear protection on a bike, these type of earphones are just as damaging to ears as wind noise is.

I use ear plugs always. Then I have a bluetooth intercom set with speakers fitted into the helmet. Saves my hearing, I can listen to tunes and also still hear cars and shit happening around me just cuts out the wind noise.

so is it actually "better" to listen to music with ear buds in...rather than not having anything in the ear? i listen to music... but when i go 50+mph i find i cant hear the music anyways.... i am guessing its because my helmet pushes them right in my ears?!
