Yes, it's that time again where we get to see the winners and losers.
Spoiler: it's all losers.
Trail/Enduro got a little bounce, but everything else is down compared to last January, including the Adventure Sports and 125 sectors that have been propping up the numbers. And not a little bit, another 14% down on a record low 2012.
Maybe it's down on volume, but up on value?
Top selling "Adventure Sport" was the Pulse Adrenaline 125 (everyone waiting for the new GS?). Most of the top sellers per category are 125s. Piaggio and Lexmoto outsold KTM, Kawasaki, Peugeot, Harley-Davidson and BMW.
Suzuki are a no-show yet again. They're nudging one new bike sale per dealer per month. I'm still predicting a "debt restructure" or similar crisis management at Suzuki UK before spring.
The high note is Triumph, who are moving a good number of decent margin bikes. A British success story? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

What's the overall 2012 units in a) UK b) Europe?
Just wondering how big the market is, as I know that just over 450,000 units were shipped in the USA, though I don't know if that figure includes scooter, but I'll assume that it does.
I presume that the European (EU/EEC) market is significantly larger with there being over 30m bikers.
EDIT - It's massively larger with around 1.5m units. With the industry contributing over €34bn per year. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

Sorry, I forgot to reply (and nod in agreement).

Ze Germans all buy BMWs, we buy a few Triumphs and other bikes, every other bugger in Europe is buying scooters though. No wonder so many UK bikes are being exported, they're not buying them new.
Except they're not. Sales across Europe are 18.5% down year-on-year in January 2013. And 2012's sales were half of the 2007 peak. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Is it just me or nearly all used bikes these days over priced?
I can't find anything at a decent price.
My GPZ500s was bought for £650 in 2008 taxed and tested, in good order.
I bought a ZXR750 that had admittedly slid down the road for £380 but it was taxed, tested and flew through it's next mot.
I bought a great condition ZX9R for £1500 again with tax and test and a recent major service.
I don't see any bargains like this around anymore.
Additionally all of the more modern bikes I like came out in 2008 - Tiger 800, F800GS, 990 SMT, Versys, F650GS, Dorsoduro etc.. meaning there's precious few for sale, they're too new to be cheap.
I really hope the new market picks up otherwise the used market is going to get even worse. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs
