Well, tonight, some old fella pulled out at a junction with out looking, forced me to slam on in the rain, the front wheel lost traction slammed down on it's left side and now I'm sitting here with a fractured wrist in plaster up to my elbow and possibly broken collar bone and ribs all on my left side Evil or Very Mad

Good job I was doing less than 30mph. Saw him coming and backed off the throttle and then he pulled out. Hi-vis and head lights are not enough in the dark and rain apparently Rolling Eyes

Twice in six months I've had a low speed accident because of some idiot. Middle Finger

Going to inspect the damage tomorrow. Neutral

Good job I bought San Andreas yesterday as I'll need something to do.

My nice new Shoei helmet is f*cked Evil or Very Mad

Maybe it's time to quit bikes Thinking

Prob going to sell the gixxer anyway and now I'll think about selling the ZXR400 Neutral

I hate being this hardcore Razz

Noway, don't do it.

Keep them, you love them and you know it! who really needs two bikes, unless one's a winter hack! (can you consider a ZXR400 a winter hack?)

Sounds like you came off fairly badly from a low speed crash, good job san andreas is an amazing game.

Hope you heal quickly mate, and don't let the bastards get you down.

*gulp*

With all this talk of falling off, I think I'd better ride a little more cautiously. Already had the rear step sideways when changing lanes today. That was scary enuff....

I do love them but it makes you think. This is twice I have overtaken my bike on my chest now.

F*ckin' sore too.

Oh, he give me his details and went home (after I told him it's illegal) and then came back before the police arrived Rolling Eyes I told them though, they seemed quite interested in that.

God bless the lady with the babie in her car as she made me sit with her until someone from my family came to meet me. 'I'm not leaving you alone' she said. I'll never see this lady again as she didn't witness the crash. I know she'll never see this but

God bless you

She kept me warm and dry. (Can't believe
she did that with her baby with her)

I must have a nice face Very Happy

You applied the front brake too hard, hence the skid due to lack of control. You should of changed down one gear when you backed off with the throttle and used the engine (braking) to slow you down more and used the brakes 50 - 50 in the wet.

Changing down would not of helped me mate, he was too close. If the bike hadn't of hit the floor, he would of hit me or me him.

Not much you can do if someone pulls out infront of you when they shouldnt... If he hadnt last the front he would have hit the car instead?

Yes, I know it's a pain when someone pulls out on you, but this is where you learn the art of finding another route out of trouble, even in the wet. As I said, it's all down to control and thinking fast. Sounds like you panicked and applied the brakes too hard hence the front wheel slide. Hope you get better soon. Don't give up the bikes just yet, take your time, the more you ride the more you will learn on how to get out of a sticky situation.

He's not a n00b to bikes. Rolling Eyes

Get off your fucking high horse and realise that things go wrong and it isn't always the riders fault, he hardly panicked when he started slowing down before the driver had pulled out.

He also was turning right and as I was coming from the right, my other option was to turn into his path.

Really don't believe I could of avoided this.

I did not say he was, and nor was I implying he was either Evil or Very Mad

Yes, things go wrong from time to time, but he still lost it even after he slowed down and he should not have lost it unless he was going to fast for the road conditions, he panicked at the last second and applied the brake too hard and thats what caused the front to slide away from under him.

Ouch, you have my sympathies, I had similar injuries in July, so I know where you're coming from. I presume you've not had any surgery though? Keep on the painkillers, (though they make you constipated beyond belief and ruin your apetite Rolling Eyes ) and things certainly seem better.

It's certainly not time to quit bikes, as I'm sure you'll be itching to be back on it before too long; it should only be 6-7 or so weeks before you should be fit enough to slowly start riding again, though it is difficult.

Hope you heal reasonably quickly and that your skin doesn't get too itchy and manky under the pot! Unfortunately, 5 months on, my wrist and arm are only just getting back to something equivalent of what they were beforehand.

Does this mean you get time off work too then? Mr. Green

Ian - the guy's just had an off, he probably has the incident going around his head a million times an hour right now, along with the other stuff he mentioned.

He posted here in the hope that someone would understand and offer a bit of support - not a riding lesson.

He has said it happened at the last minute, so half the stuff you say is bollocks - how could he turn into the road if it was at the last minute? Surely he would have turned into the car pulling out?

Yes, perhaps there are riding techniques that could've avoided the accident. But it was just that, an accident. In every accident there is always something that someone could've done to prevent it - but that's a perfect world - in which case the word accident would never have existed.

Stop talking to him like your instructing a 16 year old on a scooter Thumbs Down We can't all be perfect riders like you instructors seem to be Rolling Eyes

Sounds like you came off pretty badly for a fairly low speed off. When I think about some of the shit I have walked away from without a scratch Thinking

Good luck getting yourself and the bike fixed. Do what the physio says if you need one (squeezy balls are your friend).

Sadly, until people experience broken bones at first hand, they probably don't have a lot of a clue how bad it really is. If nothing else, the weakness, sadistic physiotherapists, lack of coordination, manky skin, crap (Leicester Royal infirmary is anyway) hospitals, loss of mobility, not being able to ride, the resulting loss in confidence, etc, etc are just as bad as the pain.

Having said all that, many major illnesses will do most of these things too, so I'd say it sucks having anything major wrong with you full stop.

Ouch, that is a terrifying thought, how you got all those injuries from a low speed spill, no collision either?

Just last night while going up the M5 I suddenly found myself on the tail end of almost stationary traffic (result of the dreaded driving coma, I was not looking past the car in front). I started breaking hard, still I used the classic motorway escape route of going between the two lines of cars. Even while traveling at 31 metres per second I still had the time and maneuverability to avoid the cars.

Given your injuries et all I wondered, are you naturally unlucky?

No way should you give up your bikes mate. Maybe just give up winter riding?
