My CBR is going and being replaced with a 2010 GS, I am going to become everything that annoys me. Getting a helmet with a peak and rally jacket to look the part. Going to stand up over the slightest rough ground.
Just though i'd share that with you all.

They are good bike and I've been fighting with myself not to get one, buts not many other bikes can do the mileage i want to do.

I spend quite a lot of time looking at working with 1200gs's and I can't fight any more, doesn't turn me on like 92/3 fire blade but for what I do on a bike it will do the job.

I might even try and take it off road or at least tell people I do.

Get whatever floats your boat!

People say things like goldwings are horrible but tbh I look at them now knowing when I'm old and withering away that I'll see them as a comfy way of continuing biking Laughing

As you can see, I love my Goldwings. I'd have another if they weren't so damned expensive. Crying or Very sad

Anyway, adventure bikes are ace. When i got mine it was a toss up between the BMW and the Tiger and the main reason I chose the Tiger is I'm not a great fan of twins.

Polarbear, I think the first bike which ever made a real impression on me was a brand new GL1200. It must have been around 1985, which made me 13 years old and living in Canberra, Australia. It was a two tone gold colour and - amazing at the time - had a stereo, on a motorbike!

The full fairing, the noise and the sheer presence of the machine just filled me with awe. Really left me with a lasting impression. The Harley Davidson Electra Glide has a similar presence, but I'm biased against it because it's a Harley. Harley's are big in Australia, bought mainly by mid-40's professionals or people with three teeth, scratty beards and membership of motorcycle clubs with names like "Rebels" and so on. An image thing, in other words.

Since seeing that first GoldWing, the only bikes I've really been drawn to are the touring type bikes, recently expanding my interest towards the adventure bikes like the GS. They seem to give an impression of distance, comfort and that the journey is as important as the destination. That appeals to me.

I'm a little jealous of your GoldWing history. They are lovely bikes.

I look forward of some epic adventure tales about the time you once rode down a gravel lane in Yorkshire. To complete the look you might want to invest in a sticker sheet of flags from random countries that you've never visited to stick on your empty panniers Thumbs Up

(I'm just jealous I'd quite like one but my legs are too short to reach the floor Sad )

The second bike I ever went on the back of was my dads 1200 Goldwing Aspencade. 3 sets of 120watt speakers (Bohemian Rhapsody was a favorite) and fold down armrests on the back. Best pillion perch I've ever tried and the only one I've fallen asleep on!

Loving the tash.

I was looking at a Ducati Multistrada 1200s today and drooling. I really fancy a touring bike after watching the Hairy Bikers do their tour of Europe on a KTM Adventure.

They also had the BMW GS in, looked like serious business. Had a price tag to match. Happy with my CBR for my purposes, showing off, making noise, etc.

Most of that mileage gets racked up going to and from BMW workshops though.

I talked to a guy who had one and said they corner very well and something about how the suspension keeps the bike level and it doesn't dive like most adventure bikes.

GS's are quite crap, BMW are very good at covering up their faulty alternators, starters, gearbox's and shaft drive problems

I'm intrigued as to what these mileages are that only BMW's can achieve?

But then again I'm known as one who don't give a fcuk for any man's authority. Evil or Very Mad
