Can you get exhaust stud welded on to engine?

Like title says there's nothing for the stud to screw into so can I get a bit of weld on there to keep it in.

Best to remove the broken stud (if any), if not a helicoil insert or alloy filling weld followed by retapping would be much better, do you have a pic of the problem?

Im guessing the CBR6? Its quite common. 7 of mine snapped, cost a bit to fix.

If just one, you may get away without it. Who cares if it blows a little? Laughing

I've always just done up one side getting a bit sick of it blowing to be honest mate .

From memory you have 6mm studs so it is possible to change them all to 8 mm or bigger using stainless steel, welding is not really an option due to lack of access and certainly not a permanent job.

You will need to enlarge the holes which previously accepted a smaller stud and then thread to a larger thread and insert rustless stainless steel studs or inserts, this will go a long way to solving the problem but you will need to drill out the exhaust clamps to suit the larger stud. If you could post a pic it would help.

CBR6's have 8mm studs that reduce to 6mm. Its bloody stupid design and one of the reasons they snap.

Id leave it alone, listen to music or something. Standard exhaust? consider it a free upgrade.

If the others are free, you could try drilling it out. If you do it badly, you just have to live with it blowing. Its not an easy job! even with forks and radiator removed.

This is why you use a good penetrating spray and let it soak for a few hours before trying to undo them.
I'd personally just extract the old stud one way or another and put anew stud in.

Did you read the post I haven't snapped a stud so why would I need to use wd40 or similar Rolling Eyes

nothing to screw into? as in the place where the stud should be, thats missing?

picture needed

you could either make a bracket using other studs for support, ignore it, or take the head off for welding. got £800 spare? and can I have it Laughing

Welding may fuck with the temper/heat treatment of valve seats etc.. as I belive it needs to be preheated for TiG. Interested to know this myself - they did not tell me how they managed with mine.
