In fairness the royal family would do well to be snapped on a caravan holiday in bognor regis. It would bring them back down to the people's level and create an immediate sense of connection and community across all social classes. If the royals live simple, everyone can live simple, and as a country we'd be a darn sight better off with more humble attitudes across the board. Too much emphasis on glitter and gold these days.

If you were a multi millionaire, would you stay in a caravan in Bognor?

Me neither, and neither would sal1988. He just thinks everyone should be at the same level. Communism basically.

Whilst I agree the monarchy is an outdated system and seems unfair, from what I have read about tourism and the money they generate, it seems to be profitable for our country.

The monarchy is a complete non issue.

If you don't like inequality of wealth then the entire system needs bringing down.

The Royal Family are just publicised. What about the hundreds of thousands of 'families' out there with millions?

(I don't particularly mind the existence of inequality, just raising the point).

Surely it would be more fitting to be complaining about the people who have sent the banks bankrupt and continue to get £2M bonuses after the government has bailed them out.

surely sending your own bank bankrupt is not a case of "Well done, have a bonus" it must be a case of "you stupid idiot, have a biscuit"

They "make" that money by breathing and breeding, qualities that can be found on any sink estate in this grey and dismal land.

Sorry, went a bit Mondeo Man there.

Princess Kate is lovely and one of the prettiest selebs on the strip.
And if I was asked to choose between Prince William's and your mug weeeeelllll it would be a no brainer.

The Royal family are important for Britain's International Reality.

None of the people we (the mrs and me) speak to who visit the UK mention the monarchy. Not saying that's a representative sample or owt, but when the mrs worked on the tour buses in town the consensus was that tourists were essentially just ticking a box, as in okay this year we're doing the UK (London, York, Edinburgh, etc.), last year we did Rome, next year Prague. Those who say, well, the UK drew us here because unlike so many other countries, they have a conspicuous monarch, rah rah rah...well, anyway, I've never heard anyone say that. I have heard them talk about palaces, castles and such like. But of course those would outlast the tumbrils we'd cart their occupants off in.

My suspicion is that the loud, rotund cheque jacketed yank and his blue-rinsed wifey coo-ing and snapping the quaint beef eaters are long gone.

One last point - the monarchy doesn't "seem" unfair, it *is* unfair. You may or may not think it has benefits to the culture and economy that off-set this, but the unalterable fact remains - it's unfair.
