Hi all, I'm from Sydney Australia and am planning on doing an 8 week or so trip around the UK and Europe next year during July and August. I'm trying to get atleast one other person to come with me but I have had no real luck with that as yet. I will be going to my Grandfathers home village (Polruan) in Cornwall for probably about a week to scatter his ashes and have a bit of a look around before touring the rest of the UK and then crossing the channel for the remainder of the trip. Not much set in stone as yet as I'm planning to take a day at a time approach but I would like to go around the Nurburgring thats for sure Smile I was going to just buy a bike when I arrive and bring it back with me when I return but I may just end up setting up a bike here before I go and shipping it over and then bringing it back home when I return, there seems to be a few companies that do this but I'll have to do a little more research on that as their dates may not work out that well with my plans..

Well you wont go far wrong touring around Cornwall, so that`s a good start!
Most of the UK has something to offer as long as you stay out of the cities, 90% of the urban areas in th UK are shit-holes.

I suppose coming from sunny oz, all our rain is going to be a bit of a shock for you Smile Thumbs Up

pepperami, I will do the tourist thing for a few days around London etc but yes I want to get out on the road as soon as I can Smile

The weather couldn't be that bad could it ? lol, for an 8 week trip would July/August be the best time to go or should I plan a little outside of these dates ? I am expecting some rain but hopefully not too much...Smile

it might seem unusual to mention it, but the Tour de France cycle race starts in the UK (Leeds) June/July 2014 before heading across to France, so checking the 2014 dates to see if the dates & route clash with any plans you make, & may require you to deviate away from its path due to the road closures they implement. Parts of the French alps (RDGA etc.) will be included in Le tour & the area is also popular with bikers

What can I write that will attracted your attention. First July August is going to be costly. As you are talking the height of the season. If you look at September October. It will cost you less. And Europe will still be warm that time of the year. I do two trip's over a year in to Europe. So I'll try and keep any eye on this and see how it pan's out. I have my own idea's of where to go. But in your time frame. All destinations should be covered.

Yes, expect to get very wet.

We now have two seasons in the UK, warm rain and cold rain, the rain should be fairly warm when you come here.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing next year.

Also from Sydney but now living in London, I don't have a bike at the moment but they are much cheaper over here than in Aus, especially if you look at any of the European bikes.

I have only just started thinking about it, so no idea on where, or exactly when yet but will follow your plans and see what happens.
