WTF your landlord is resposible for that, he should have paid. your landlord sounds like a dodgy cvnt to start with. i would be on phone to trading standards. phone your landlord and if he gets funny pointt out the tenincy thats if you even have one.

your landlord is legally responsible for that, ive only ever forked out for something for one stupid landlord but then gave him the receipts and deducted it from the rent. I can not believe you agreed to pay.

deduct the cost youve already laid out for a start.

Christ alive.

Tomorrow, 9am:

Call landlord

Tell landlord, no boiler no rent.

Pay no rent until boiler installed.

I presume you got the landlords agreement to do it? Because if that was my property and you got some cowboy in to do something like that without my permission or agreement, you would be paying for the repairs.

Boiler paid for and parts? Who supplied the boiler? Who sized it? What parts? TBH before he stepped foot inside the house you should have seen some Gas Safe certification.

If it was me coming to sort that out I'd be stripping the whole thing out and starting again.

Out of curiosity how much was he charging you?

Jesus wept. Next time, ask before paying out money, eh?

You do not pay for maintenance and improvements to a rented property. Do you think you're taking that boiler with you when you move out? Doh!

There are no live wires hanging down, that flex is the boiler feed. If it is live for some reason then just switch if off at the central heating spur and take the fuse out.

Now the aunty was told by her sister "yes hes corgi and good" aunty said "yes ok this date" boiler + parts paid for by friends nan we have to pay back, now we where told hes corgi registered the landlord was told the same so he got on with it untill i questioned it, i was left in the dark a bit about the boiler actually being sorted out i was simply told he was coming saturday.

Just to add my two cents; my sisters other half does some work as a plumber in the same way, I can't remember the reason behind it but he has to have somebody come and sign off his work after he has done it. The difference is the people he does work for know the deal from the start, and the prices reflect this.

As it goes I have a good friend who is an electrician and until recently had to get his dad to sign his work off too. Maybe it's a first few years on the job thing?

Might be different with electricians I'm not sure, but with gas you're either gas safe registered or you're not.
An unregistered plumber could install a boiler run new gas pipework to the existing gas main or meter then have a gas registered guy come along and do the final connections and commissioning. Might be the same sort of deal with electrics But on the above install it looks like a straight swap combi boiler for combi boiler so he would have already disconnected the old gas pipework and reconnected to it which he shouldn't be doing.

Some dodgy companies employ a load of unqualified cheap labour then have one gas registered guy that signs everything off but probably doesn't even go to most of the jobs.

I still don't understand why you have to pay your landlord back for fitting a boiler in a house they rent out. If it didn't have a working boiler then they would struggle to rent it at all.
It's like a taxi driver asking you to pay to repair his blowing exhaust so he can charge you for a lift Confused

What it sounds like to me is that (and im hoping) is that the guy is gas safe registered with the company he works for but not himself independently, to do private work of his own if he works for a company he has to also take out his own registration in his name alongside his companies one..

I know this because im gas safe registered for my company, so im qualified but I cant sign off my own private work so to speak unless I have my own registration, its a bit of a money making farce tbh.

What does alarm me is his attitude as u described and the fact that he couldnt just explain the above to you if that is the case? Thats all I do if I do a job for a mate, just get a self employed friend who has his own business registration to sign it off because he knows I can do the work competently.

And this story is different from the shit he was spouting in chat, from what I remember the gas fitter knocked on the door, dumball asked for card and the guy ran away....yet here we have a tread where the boiler has been fitted.
