I just finished an entire plate of beef sandwiches (about 10 of those triangle shaped ones) and 3 doughnuts and then they started packing the food away. So I grabbed myself a snack plate Very Happy

I love working at Uni when all of the non-hungry undergraduate applicants are in! Very Happy

It's like ladies darts night down my local.

They're all busy proving to one another who's the most healthy.

Being a group of women, nobody will take the last of anything either.

They tend to leave anything on white bread with meat or egg. Also crisps and at least one item each of the garnish type stuff like crisps and mini pork pies.

There are generally a lot of beef and horseradish on white bread because they use up the leftover Sunday roast.

Half of my office gets free Dominoes & Krispy Kream a couple of times per week. That's no my half of the office though. There's usually a load of it left over that sits there going cold all afternoon stinking the place out. They'd rather throw it in the bin than let us near it.

I should have stashed some somewhere dammit. Now I'm at Uni, hungry, but too pissed to drive home. Apparently there's a good beef horse burger with bacon and cheese about 10 minutes walk from here though. Drooling

Also thanks to having PHD friends, I now know there is a shower hidden away in the computer science building... and the key code for the door Mr. Green

With everyone doing degrees nowadays they don't mean that much to employers.

That's the only reason that I'm here. The job I want pretty much rejects applicants that don't have a degree in the field, unless you have some serious experience.

Before at £3k a year... it's a lot, but you can see why people would be going and doing pointless degrees, for the lifestyle and something to put on a CV. Now at £9k, I can't think that it's nothing but utterly retarded to get a degree that isn't specifically for something, unless you're loaded.

Totally agree. There are far too many degrees which are pretty useless. Think the worst offender that I know is one which was actually very misleading

"Biomedical Sciences"

The proper degree is "Biomedical Science". (It's similar to nursing where you must have a degree which has been approved by the professional body).

Surprisingly, this degree was offered by one of the best unis where all the posh students go.

It'd be like doing a nursing degree but at the end of it you won't be allowed to be a nurse. Laughing

I sat here for 10 minutes thinking "wtf: does that mean something like, I dunno, Postgrad Higher Diploma or what?" and trying to figure out what sort of friends you had (post hepatic disorder? pre-hippy days ... whatevs)*

... and then it dawned on me (I guess) that you mean to write PhD but forgot to take off your caps lock.

Definately not. Thumbs Up

Biomedical Scientists work in hospital labs. They do not study medicine.

For clarity:

The old system (pre-2012, £3000 fees) has a threshold of £15,795 "Plan 1"
(source: https://www.studentloanrepayment.co.uk/portal/page?_pageid=93,6678490&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL)

The new system (2012 onwards, ~£9000 fees) has a threshold of £21,000 "Plan 2"
(source: https://www.studentloanrepayment.co.uk/portal/page?_pageid=93,6678784&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL)

9% above threshold on both.

Pull the other one, it has bells on.

Computing science students taking a shower?

You'll be telling me they go out in daylight and talk to women next.
