I don't get it?

hi this is more then likely to be a very noob question, but my bike being restricted means it dont go about 6000 revs so when im in first gear i pull the cluth in for about 1 second just to get it over that then i can pull all they way to about 11000 resv in every gear, is this damagaing my bike???

today while i was coming back from work my exhaust was smoking, even while the bike was off?? and it didnt look good, can you tell me if what i am doing is ok or bad in the long run.

It was probably smoking because it's been a blisteringly cold day today. Why don't ya just take the restrictors out?

as long as its not near the red line (1-2k revs before it) i guess the biek should be able to handle it?

It'd be a case of putting a power valve unit in, not just taking something out. They're usually £65-100, which explains why I'm leaving mine restricted and just waiting 'til I can get a bigger bike. It's possible it's there but just disconnected though, in which case it's the quickest, cheapest, most fun modification ever. Worth checking. Wink

As long as your bike is at about 60+ degrees then redline is fine. Just make sure its thoroughly warmed up otherwise you'll end up locking the top end.

As for restriction, you could always cut back the blanking plate, that way it will be full power, the ignition retard wont have much effect and will rev to redline in every gear without having to slip the clutch.

Only problem about that is you have no power until after 8000rpm, which makes it quite annoying to ride and town use is just terrible as you've got to be in high rev all the time.

I'd take a look on ebay for some of the power valves, they go for around £30 to £50. Thumbs Up

lol cheers for all the extra info, but the one thing that nobody as answered yet is my main question. does holding the clutch in for a few seconds to get past 6000revs damage the bike???

I should be amazed if it did, two-smokes especially like to rev freely, and high engine speeds under no load won't do the engine a lot of damage to speak of at all.

Can't say I've seen any going for less than £50 but I admit I've not been looking a lot. Since I'm hoping to be shot of it soon I'm hoping the fact it's learner legal might make it more sellable... mind you everyone says their's are LL regardless. Confused

Hi

The power valve is well worth having. It will ad at least 20mph to the top speed, and far better acceleration. Also if you want to restrict it again for sale to a learner then you can just fit the blanking plate back in place.

However the flat spot between 5000 and 6000rpm is caused by the environmental dip which can be removed by modifying the cdi unit. This mod makes no difference to the top end power and makes no difference to the bike being learner legal.

You are fine slipping the clutch up to higher revs.
